Forecasters warn the respite will be brief with <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/wales-weather\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">weather<\/a> warnings and flood alerts already in place across much of the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/bbc\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">BBC<\/a> weather presenter Derek Brockway has promised a dry start to Thursday morning but stressed it will not last. &#8220;Heavy bursts of rain will clear eastwards, eventually drying up overnight bar one or two showers,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Winds will ease as well, with lowest temperatures between seven and 10\u00b0C.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">But conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly as the day progresses. Another active frontal system will move northwards on Thursday, bringing another deluge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">A Met Office yellow weather warning comes into force at 10am, covering much of the south of Wales from <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/pembrokeshire\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Pembrokeshire<\/a> to <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/newport\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Newport<\/a>. Rainfall totals of 15\u201325mm are expected widely, with higher amounts over high ground, increasing the risk of localised flooding. The warning is expected to last until 7pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Forecasters say cloud will thicken through the morning on Thursday with very wet and potentially very windy weather developing by lunchtime. Conditions should turn more showery and less blustery from the west later in the day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Weather maps show the yellow warning stretching from <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/cardiff\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Cardiff<\/a> westwards, affecting <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/bridgend\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Bridgend<\/a>, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/swansea\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Swansea<\/a>, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/neath-port-talbot\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Neath <\/a><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/port-talbot\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Port Talbot<\/a>, and extending towards the coast including Tenby, Haverfordwest and Milford Haven.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Rain is expected to spread northwards during the morning, becoming heavy and persistent during the afternoon before easing later.
