Visitors to a Scots canal are being urged to clean up after themselves after adorable ducklings <\/a>were spotted swimming in water littered with plastic and shopping trolleys.<\/p>\n The shocking images were taken on Monday, April 28 on the Forth and Clyde Canal near the Bandstand and Clyde Shopping Centre<\/a> in Clydebank.<\/p>\n Pictures shared by our sister title Glasgow Live<\/a> show the birds weaving their way through discarded cups, bottles and bags.<\/p>\n A local resident said it was a “shame about the water they have to swim in” as they recalled the canal being cleaned up some years ago and the shopping trolleys removed.<\/p>\n Scottish Canals has slammed those responsible for fly-tipping, warning it not only spoils the area but poses a serious danger to wildlife<\/a>.<\/p>\n A spokesperson for Scottish Canals said: \u201cThe illegal dumping of litter and trolleys in our canals is unsightly and causes environmental risks to both canal users and wildlife <\/a>as well as the unnecessary expense for their removal by our waterway operatives.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are grateful to our volunteers who carry out litter and paddle pick-ups across our 141-mile canal network and we will continue to work with these groups.<\/p>\n “We would encourage anyone visiting our canals to always take their litter home with them.\u201d<\/p>\n It comes as Scotland, along with the rest of the UK, is set for a scorcher <\/a>this week with highs of 28C in expected across Britain.<\/p>\n The “warmest spell of the year so far” will rise each day this week before peaking on Thursday, May 1.<\/p>\n And on Wednesday, forecasters<\/a> recorded a peak of 23.5C at Aviemore, with even warmer conditions expected on the east coast where Leuchars in Fife has so far seen temperatures of 23.4C.<\/p>\n Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today.<\/p>\n You’ll receive daily updates on breaking news as well as the top headlines across Scotland.<\/p>\n No one will be able to see who is signed up and no one can send messages except the Daily Record team.<\/p>\n All you have to do is click here if you’re on mobile<\/strong><\/a>, select ‘Join Community’ and you’re in!<\/p>\n If you’re on a desktop, simply scan the QR code above with your phone and click ‘Join Community’.<\/p>\n We also treat our community members to special offers, promotions, and adverts from us and our partners.
