The licences, initially awarded under a pilot scheme, were made permanent earlier this year.

Another six bars had applications to vary their licences approved by Glasgow’s licensing board on Friday. These included Oswalds, on Oswald Street, and The Locale on North Street.

Licensing lawyer Stephen McGowan told the board: “There are some pubs in the city that didn’t apply at that time [of the pilot] for whatever reason, that now seek to come before you to say ‘we’ve seen how successful the 1am has been for other premises, we would like to be able to take advantage of a similar terminal hour’.”

Councillors heard The Locale had a 1am condition for functions but was altering its licence to “allow a standard terminal hour of 1am from Monday to Sunday”.

Changes were also approved to the licence at 6-18 Candleriggs — which includes Grace’s Irish Bar — to allow a standard terminal hour of 1am from Monday to Sunday. A 1am terminal hour was also granted for 14-18 Bothwell Street, where The Noble is based.

Sections of Revolution, on Mitchell Street, and Bowlarama, on Glassford Street, can also open until 1am.

Licensing lawyer Audrey Junner, who represented both premises, said Revolution was “a slightly unusual one” as the overall venue has a 3am terminal hour.

However, a condition restricted the ground floor, which is used as a bar/restaurant, to midnight. Ms Junner said there was “no desire at this stage to convert the ground floor into a nightclub”.

“It will continue to trade as a bar/restaurant area,” she said. “But since the 1am pilot was introduced… they have found it fairly challenging.”

She added the bar has been “suffering slightly” with “competitors around them being able to open until 1am”.

At Bowlarama, a 1am terminal hour was also secured for the ground floor only. The first floor can open later. Ms Junner said the request for the change came after a re-fit, which included baseball-style batting cages.

Over 50 venues were initially granted 1am licences under a pilot scheme last year.More bars have secured permission…

[7826
748,918,10650,4884,712,16,15
0":"post-639714","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-glasgow","8":"tag-britain","9":"tag-glasgow","10":"tag-glasgow-city-council","11":"tag-great-britain","12":"tag-scotland","13":"tag-uk","14":"tag-united-kingdom
["GET
