{"id":639893,"date":"2025-12-18T08:45:29","date_gmt":"2025-12-18T08:45:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/639893\/"},"modified":"2025-12-18T08:45:29","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T08:45:29","slug":"danske-bank-revises-ni-2025-growth-projections-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/639893\/","title":{"rendered":"Danske Bank revises NI 2025 growth projections up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Danske Bank has revised up its 2025 growth forecast for Northern Ireland \u2013 although it expects growth to slow in 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">The bank has increased its growth forecast for 2025 to 1.3%, up from 1.1%, a level that still leaves NI slightly behind the UK forecast growth of 1.4%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Looking to 2026 however, the bank expects growth in Northern Ireland to fall backwards, \u201cas inflation, taxes and uncertainty continue to weigh on the economy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">The latest publication of Danske\u2019s Northern Ireland Quarterly Sectoral Forecasts report highlighted contrasting outlooks for different sectors in Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">It expects a Gross Value added (GVA) for the professional, scientific and technical services sector of 2%, while it expects 1.9% growth in the information &amp; communication sector.<\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Wholesale and retail trade are projected to record growth in 2025 of 1.7%, while accommodation and food service is anticipated to have grown by 1.5% this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Weaker growth is expected for the manufacturing sector, with the bank projecting a 1.6% increase in 2025 and a 0.7% rise in 2026, something it attributes to \u201chigh business costs, skills shortages and trade uncertainty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Conor Lambe, Chief Economist at Danske Bank, said: \u201cEconomic growth is expected to remain sluggish in both Northern Ireland and the wider UK in 2026.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Danske Bank chief economist Conor Lambe\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/711d4f38-717e-479e-bda9-b00ef8c8a6d2.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" data-testid=\"article-image\"  \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_caption1 beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_secondary beltel-66f0fec7_regular beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom0 beltel-1d70522a_marginleft0 beltel-1d70522a_marginright0 beltel-1d70522a_margintop3 beltel-b48c4984_left\" style=\"color:var(--color-grey-60)\">Danske Bank chief economist Conor Lambe<\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">\u201cInflation is projected to remain above target, higher taxes are likely to constrain activity and ongoing uncertainty will likely continue to weigh on the economy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">\u201cHowever, we expect the gradual loosening of monetary policy to continue, which should provide some support to consumer spending and business investment, while higher government spending is also likely to contribute to economic growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Danske believes the annual number of employee jobs will rise at around 2% for the year 2025, while expecting this to slow down to 0.6% in 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">It believes the unemployment rate here will sit at 2.3% this year, and increase slightly to 2.6% in 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Business services are expected to have a \u201cmixed\u201d jobs performance this year, with information and communication jobs expected to have fallen by 2.4%.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"The construction sector is expected to have seen a growth in jobs of over 5% this year.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/db39cddc-0e18-4c5c-9096-f2c0aeb98170.jpg\" loading=\"eager\" width=\"100%\" data-testid=\"article-image\"  \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_caption1 beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_secondary beltel-66f0fec7_regular beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom0 beltel-1d70522a_marginleft0 beltel-1d70522a_marginright0 beltel-1d70522a_margintop3 beltel-b48c4984_left\" style=\"color:var(--color-grey-60)\">The construction sector is expected to have seen a growth in jobs of over 5% this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_caption1 beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_secondary beltel-66f0fec7_regular beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom0 beltel-1d70522a_marginleft0 beltel-1d70522a_marginright0 beltel-1d70522a_margintop3 beltel-b48c4984_left\" style=\"color:var(--color-grey-60)\">News Catch Up &#8211; Wednesday 17 December  <\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">However, jobs in the administrative and support services, and professional, scientific and technical services sectors are expected to have gone up this year, resulting in a net rise in these three sectors above the general employment growth rate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Construction has seen a notable growth in employee numbers, and is expected to report a 5.3% rise for this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"beltel-ebe0ecc6_root beltel-ebe0ecc6_paragraph beltel-300db776_none beltel-91174671_primary beltel-1d70522a_marginbottom5 beltel-1d70522a_margintop0 beltel-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Danske Bank emphasised that there are risks and uncertainties surrounding its forecast.
