{"id":639932,"date":"2025-12-18T09:14:25","date_gmt":"2025-12-18T09:14:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/639932\/"},"modified":"2025-12-18T09:14:25","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T09:14:25","slug":"latest-flu-data-to-be-published-as-doctors-strike-continues-in-england","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/639932\/","title":{"rendered":"Latest flu data to be published as doctors&#8217; strike continues in England"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What we saw in last week&#8217;s datapublished at 08:59 GMT<\/p>\n<p>08:59 GMT<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">NHS England publishes weekly updates on the number of flu patients in hospital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Last week&#8217;s report, published on 11 December, showed an average of <b class=\"ssrcss-cgjb6m-Keyword e2vephq0\">2,660 patients<\/b> were in a hospital bed with with flu each day over the course of the previous week. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">This was the highest-ever figure for this time of year, and <b class=\"ssrcss-cgjb6m-Keyword e2vephq0\">a rise of 55%<\/b> compared to the week before.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">NHS national medical director Meghana Pandit said &#8220;with record demand for A&amp;E and ambulances&#8221;, and the doctors&#8217; strike, the &#8220;unprecedented wave of super flu is leaving the NHS facing a worst-case scenario for this time of year&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">There was a glimmer of good news yesterday, though, when the chief executive of NHS England said flu cases may now be &#8220;starting to settle&#8221; in some places &#8211; we&#8217;ll have more on that in our next post.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A bar graph showing the number of people in a hospital bed with flu in the week starting 1 December for each year from 2022\/3 onwards.
