{"id":640339,"date":"2025-12-18T14:00:14","date_gmt":"2025-12-18T14:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/640339\/"},"modified":"2025-12-18T14:00:14","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T14:00:14","slug":"bryan-habana-stealing-shock-happens-more-than-we-think","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/640339\/","title":{"rendered":"Bryan Habana stealing shock &#8216;happens more than we think&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Former Springboks prop Steven Kitshoff believes that Bryan Habana may not be the only rugby player to be taken advantage of by their family or friends.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Last week, South Africa\u2019s record try-scorer revealed the shock that his father stole from him for several years, resulting in their relationship breaking down.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/tag\/bryan-habana\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Habana<\/a> claimed that they have not been close for 15 years, but Kitshoff suggested that it might not necessarily be uncommon.<\/p>\n<p>The price of fame<\/p>\n<p>Being high profile sports stars with more money than most, certain people may feel they can take advantage of their wealth and fame, including members of their family, and that is what happened to the ex-wing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s tough. Within the sport, I think it happens more often than we think,\u201d Kitshoff said on the <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=T5fyvG8kiAs\" target=\"_blank\">GameTime<\/a> podcast.<\/p>\n<p>Particularly in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/team\/south-africa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">South Africa<\/a>, the 33-year-old states that there is both an expectation and a willingness to provide for people back home.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cThere are a lot of guys that go through other [things], whether it\u2019s family or supporting [someone close to you].<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEspecially guys that come from rural areas, they give most of their money back to support their families and look after them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes people think that rugby players are flipping super rich and have got all the money in the bank, but a lot of their money goes back and looks after their family, which is very noble.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe guys are willing to work exceptionally hard for something that is bigger than themselves, which is what I love.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s tough. I also saw that interview. I knew the story from Bryan but just to see it again, it\u2019s tough to see.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou always wish that someone and their father have an unbelievable relationship and as soon as the money comes in and gets involved, it\u2019s tricky.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/news\/springboks-legend-bryan-habana-my-father-stole-a-lot-of-money-from-me\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Springboks legend Bryan Habana: My father stole a lot of money from me<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Habana\u2019s trust broken<\/p>\n<p>Habana revealed on the Business of Sport podcast that he was in a better position than most growing up and was able to go to the best schools and universities.<\/p>\n<p>He had a happy childhood and initially had a great relationship with his father, but that was broken when the Springboks legend was betrayed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrust is a really difficult thing to understand.
