{"id":64063,"date":"2025-04-30T22:34:08","date_gmt":"2025-04-30T22:34:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/64063\/"},"modified":"2025-04-30T22:34:08","modified_gmt":"2025-04-30T22:34:08","slug":"u2s-bono-shares-emotive-trailer-for-bono-stories-of-surrender-documentary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/64063\/","title":{"rendered":"U2\u2019s Bono shares emotive trailer for &#8216;Bono: Stories of Surrender&#8217; documentary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The trailer for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/Bono\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bono<\/a>: Stories of Surrender, the intimate documentary starring the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/u2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> U2<\/a> frontman, has been unveiled.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"post-content-read-more\">\n<li><strong>READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/live\/bono-live-in-london-u2-stories-of-surrender-memoir-3350844\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bono live in London: U2 frontman brings his memoir to life with songs and fascinating stories<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Directed by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/andrew-dominik-nick-cave-warren-ellis-interview-this-much-i-know-to-be-true-grief-marianne-faithfull-3222455\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andrew Dominik<\/a>\u00a0(who helmed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/nick-cave\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nick Cave<\/a>\u00a0documentaries\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/reviews-nick-cave-16566-303926\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">One More Time With Feeling<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/film-reviews\/this-much-i-know-to-be-true-review-nick-cave-warren-ellis-3221300\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This Much I Know To Be True<\/a>\u00a0as well as the Marilyn Monroe biopic\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/film-reviews\/blonde-review-marilyn-monroe-netflix-ana-de-armas-3318809\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Blonde<\/a>), the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/tag\/apple-tv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apple TV+<\/a> doc will serve as a reimagining of Bono\u2019s critically acclaimed one-man stage show, Stories of Surrender: An Evening of Words, Music and Some Mischief\u2026<\/p>\n<p>It will also include unseen footage of his April 2023 residency at NYC\u2019s Beacon Theatre in support of his book\u00a0Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story, A Memoir Told Through 40 U2 Songs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is my story,\u201d he says in the trailer that dropped today (April 30). \u201cI\u2019m stuck with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It sees him recount the loss of his mother when he was just 14 years old, and chart his relationships as he rose to fame. \u201cLast time I saw my mother alive,\u201d he says, \u201cwas at her own father\u2019s funeral. It sounds almost too Irish, I know. My father\u2019s response to this tragedy was to never speak of her again.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on those closet to him, the singer says: \u201cTurns out, the most extraordinary thing about my life is the people I\u2019m in relationships with. I met my wife, Ali, the same week I joined U2.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The documentary is set for release on May 30 on Apple TV+. A press release states the film \u201cpulls back the curtain on a remarkable life and the family, friends, and faith that have challenged and sustained him, revealing personal stories about his journey as a son, father, husband, activist and rockstar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is also set to premiere on Apple Vision Pro the same day as the film\u2019s release, marking the first feature-length film available in Apple Immersive Video. An abridged and updated paperback version of Bono\u2019s memoir will also be released alongside the documentary film.<\/p>\n<p>The paperback edition of\u00a0Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story, A Memoir Told Through 40 U2 Songs\u00a0has been refined to mirror the arc of his one-man show and will feature a film tie-in book cover and new introduction by the singer.<\/p>\n<p>In other news, U2 recently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/u2-share-message-and-piano-piece-in-support-of-ukraine-and-president-zelenskyy-3840801\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shared a message and piano piece in support of Ukraine and President Zelenskyy to mark the third anniversary of Russia\u2019s invasion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Edge, meanwhile, recently<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/the-edge-teases-new-u2-material-very-soon-live-show-plans-3826766\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0teased that new material from U2 would be arriving \u201cvery soon\u201d with the band \u201choping to get to do some shows<\/a>\u201d in the not-too-distant future. Last year saw the guitarist share that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/u2s-the-edge-says-their-new-album-is-not-a-straight-up-rock-thing-3813269\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the album would not be \u201ca straight-up rock thing\u201d<\/a>\u00a0and that he was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/u2-are-recording-new-music-with-larry-mullen-while-the-edge-bono-and-brian-eno-also-make-sci-fi-irish-folk-music-3815785\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">teaming up with Bono and Brian Eno for \u201csome crazy kind of sci-fi Irish folk music\u201d.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Drummer\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/u2s-larry-mullen-jr-teases-different-new-music-and-2026-tour-3821958\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Larry Mullen Jr. also recently opened up about his recovery from an injury \u2013 which forced him to take time off from the band \u2013and shared what fans can expect from new material.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The trailer for Bono: Stories of Surrender, the intimate documentary starring the U2 frontman, has been unveiled.
