{"id":64143,"date":"2025-04-30T23:16:09","date_gmt":"2025-04-30T23:16:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/64143\/"},"modified":"2025-04-30T23:16:09","modified_gmt":"2025-04-30T23:16:09","slug":"local-elections-2025-where-when-and-why-london-is-excluded","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/64143\/","title":{"rendered":"Local elections 2025: where, when and why London is excluded"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/newsletter_we_final_embed_desktop.png\" alt=\"WEST END FINAL\" width=\"158px\" height=\"158px\" class=\"sc-eEbqID ecGikU\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Voters in some parts of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/england\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">England<\/a> will vote to elect councillors and mayors on Thursday, May 1. <\/p>\n<p>These local elections will occur in specific areas and will be the first since the general election in July 2024. <\/p>\n<p>They determine who will decide on issues such as local services, housing and education within specific areas or regions.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s everything we know about the 2025 local <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/elections\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">elections<\/a>.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/news\/politics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/p>\n<p>Where are the 2025 local elections taking place?<\/p>\n<p>Elections will be held in 23 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/councils\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">councils<\/a> across England, excluding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/london\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">London<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Voters will choose representatives in 14 county councils: Cambridgeshire, Derbyshire, Devon, Gloucestershire, Hertfordshire, Kent, Lancashire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, and Worcestershire.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, elections will be held in eight unitary authorities: Buckinghamshire, Cornwall, County Durham, North Northamptonshire, Northumberland, Shropshire, West Northamptonshire and Wiltshire. Doncaster will also hold an election.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/news\/politics\/england-labour-parliament-liberal-democrats-conservatives-b1225071.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mayoral elections<\/a> will occur in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, North Tyneside, Doncaster, Greater Lincolnshire and Hull, and East Yorkshire.<\/p>\n<p>Why doesn\u2019t London have any elections?<\/p>\n<p>Local government elections are held every four years, but not all simultaneously.
