Scott McTominay edged closer to securing another trophy with Napoli, but not before the ex-Manchester United<\/a> man was involved in a heated exchange with Fikayo Tomori – AC Milan’s former Chelsea<\/a> defender – which required heavy-handed intervention from his teammates.<\/p>\n The Serie A champions progressed to the final of the four-team Italian Super Cup tournament in Saudi Arabia after a 2-0 victory over AC Milan.<\/p>\n The match was largely uneventful and played out in front of a subdued Saudi Arabia crowd, until a clash between McTominay and AC Milan defender Tomori sparked some drama.<\/p>\n The incident occurred with 81 minutes on the clock when the referee awarded a free-kick after a sturdy challenge from McTominay.<\/p>\n The ball rolled towards Tomori, who promptly kicked it back in the direction of the Scotland international, causing tempers to flare.<\/p>\n McTominay was visibly angered by the action, leading the referee to intervene as the 28-year-old midfielder confronted his opponent. The situation escalated as those two players went head-to-head, with Napoli striker Lorenzo Lucca stepping in to restrain McTominay.<\/p>\n The altercation continued with even Napoli goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic rushing up to the halfway line to help defuse the situation.<\/p>\n Both players were eventually shown yellow cards, and Napoli managed to see out the remaining ten minutes to secure their place in the final against either Bologna or Inter on Monday night.<\/p>\n The flashpoint comes as McTominay has thrived with Napoli since making the switch from United back in a deal reported to be worth around \u00a326million<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Scotland midfielder helped the club secure the Serie A title in his maiden season, totting-up 12 goals and six assists from 34 games. He has also been instrumental to Napoli’s success this season, playing in 14 of the side’s 15 matches in total as they sit third in the league standings, just two points shy of first-placed Inter Milan.<\/p>\n McTominay is also in familiar company at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, given former United teammate, Rasmus Hojlund<\/a>, joined him this summer.<\/p>\n The young Denmark international has failed to live up to expectations at Old Trafford<\/a> since his \u00a372m transfer from Atalanta in 2023. In the years since, Hojlund has managed just 26 goals across all competitions – finding the back of the net just four times last term despite being relied on as the Reds’ main outlet.<\/p>\n As a result, he joined Napoli in a year-long loan this summer<\/a>, with the Italian side reportedly holding an obligation to make the move permanent dependent on Champions League<\/a> qualification for 2026\/2027.
