The Covid-19 pandemic saw the threshold increase to \u00a345 in 2020, rising to the current \u00a3100 in October 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Despite contactless cards having a \u00a3100 payment limit, Britons who pay using their smartphone to pay can spend any amount without the need for a PIN code.<\/p>\n<p>Analysts cite in-built security features in phones, including thumbprints and face ID, as providing greater security for consumers.<\/p>\n<p>However, there has been growing concerns over contactless payments being more attractive to scammers and fraudsters who can make expensive payments with a stolen card.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"0f7fb\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"7415bf5d66d344ca640bf0231a148bcc\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%204117%202290'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/stock-image-of-online-scammer.jpg\" width=\"4117\" height=\"2290\" alt=\"Stock image of online scammer\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Scammers are taking advantage of contactless cards<\/p>\n<p> | PA<\/p>\n<p>Under current consumer protection laws, Britons would still get their money back if their card was stolen by a scammer up to a certain amount.<\/p>\n<p>David Geale, the executive director of payments and digital finance at the FCA, shared: &#8220;Contactless is people&#8217;s favoured way to pay.
