That protest was in fact Socialist Party members causing disruption to bin lorries at the Atlas depot in Tyseley.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">At the time Socialist Party member, Nick Hart, told BirminghamLive: \u201cI might or might not have been stood outside the depot between the hours of 6am and 10am. \u201cIt\u2019s a group of independent activiists who support the bin workers\u2019 strike.\u201d The regional organiser and member of the party\u2019s branch in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Birmingham<\/a> added: \u201cIt wasn\u2019t organised by the bin workers or the union. It was a group of us that wanted to put pressure on the council.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">READ MORE: <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/news\/midlands-news\/birmingham-council-chiefs-told-come-33081980\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Birmingham council chiefs ordered: &#8216;come up with urgent plan to end bin strike&#8217;<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">A spokeswoman for <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/birmingham-city-council\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Birmingham City Council<\/a> then said: \u201cWe apologise for incorrectly identifying Unite in a social media post as being involved in Friday December 5 protest at Atlas depot, as part of our messaging to residents to advise their waste collections would be affected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cOur waste vehicles were able to leave the depot later that day, in order to carry out waste collections as planned.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Then last Friday there were protests outside depots at <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/perry-barr\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Perry Barr<\/a> and Smithfield.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The council then said: \u201cProtests at Perry Barr and Smithfield depots have caused delays to our fleet this morning. But it was the latest disruption in a bitter near year-long dispute between Birmingham bin workers and the council over proposed changes to their pay and conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Some council bin staff council have been taking action on what Unite called \u2018fire and rehire pay cuts of up to \u00a38,000\u2019 since January. They have been on an all-out strike since March 11.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Job &amp; Talent agency staff joined the action over alleged \u2018bullying, harassment and the threat of blacklisting\u2019 following a vote a little over a month ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/newsletter-preference-centre\/?view=Solus&amp;mailingListId=67ec6fc9-65d2-4b0c-b55e-ee73660ce693&amp;utm_source=solusarticle\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"[object Object]Link opens in a new tab.\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Get the latest BirminghamLive news direct to your inbox<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">A spokeswoman for Birmingham City Council has previously said: \u201cWhile we are disappointed the dispute has not been resolved as Unite has rejected all our offers, we are continuing to make regular waste collections and our contingency plan is working.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cWe have been collecting an average of approximately 1,330 tonnes of kerbside waste every day, more than we did prior to industrial action, and over the last six months we have collected over 100,000 tonnes of kerbside waste.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cThere has been a 22 per cent increase in tonnage of waste collected per employee and a 52 per cent improvement regarding missed collections.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cA small number of agency staff are in a separate dispute with Job &amp; Talent.
