Its support helps communities safeguard vital services, bring a new lease of life to local spaces and strengthen social and economic wellbeing in towns, villages and islands across the country. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Last year, DTAS supported 81 local organisations, helping them secure more than \u00a31.1 million in funding.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The manifesto highlights the ways in which communities are already leading change \u2013 from transforming disused buildings into thriving community hubs, to tackling rural depopulation and building a fairer local economy. However, it also highlights how limited funding and a lack of long-term investment is still holding them back.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">To help Scotland\u2019s communities reach their full potential, the manifesto sets out practical steps and policy asks centred around five key pillars:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">A sustainable and supportive environment for communities<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Developing local democracy<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">An inclusive, sustainable, wellbeing economy<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Land reform and community ownership<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">A just transition and climate action<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nen.press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/dtas-banner.png?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"660\" height=\"244\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/dtas-banner.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-219841\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Among its proposed actions, DTAS is urging greater investment in long-term community development, reforms to land policy to expedite community ownership, and the creation of a community wealth fund to help local people take on and transform assets for public benefit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Pauline Smith, CEO at DTAS, said:<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>\u201cCommunities across Scotland are already delivering life-changing solutions to the challenges they face \u2013 from keeping vital services running to building a fairer local economy. But too often, their ambitions are limited by short-term policy and centralised control.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThis manifesto is our call for change to give local citizens real power, not just a voice. With the right investment and trust, they can shape a fairer, greener and more resilient future for Scotland.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Case study<\/strong>: <strong>Huntly Development Trust<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">With DTAS help, member Huntly Development Trust has been able to secure the Strengthening Communities Funding needed to grow its organisational capacity and sharpen its impact locally.\u00a0 DTAS\u2019 Community Ownership Support Service has helped the Trust taken ownership of key community assets and accelerate its vision for local regeneration.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nen.press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/huntly-dev-trust.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1314\" height=\"705\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/huntly-dev-trust.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-219842\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Donald Boyd, general manager at Huntly Development Trust, said: \u201cDevelopment trusts across Scotland are the beating heart of local action.
