{"id":642146,"date":"2025-12-19T11:58:17","date_gmt":"2025-12-19T11:58:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/642146\/"},"modified":"2025-12-19T11:58:17","modified_gmt":"2025-12-19T11:58:17","slug":"christmas-and-new-year-service-changes-in-south-wales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/642146\/","title":{"rendered":"Christmas and New Year service changes in South Wales"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Train services in South Wales will finish earlier and start later than normal over Christmas and the New Year, and some services will be disrupted throughout the festive period because of engineering works.<\/p>\n<p>Summary of changes<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Christmas Eve, 24th December and New Year\u2019s Eve, 31st December<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Services will finish earlier than normal Services will finish earlier than normal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Christmas Day and Boxing Day, 25th and 26th December<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There will be no train services or rail replacement buses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Saturday, 27th December<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Services will start later.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Between Wednesday, 24th and Wednesday, 31st December<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Some services may be re-timed and subject to platform changes at Cardiff Central because of Network Rail engineering works west of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railadvent.co.uk\/2025\/12\/140m-funding-announced-for-south-wales-railway-station-renovation.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cardiff Central station<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Monday, 29th December to New Year\u2019s Day<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Engineering work may affect services between Whitland \/ Haverfordwest and Milford Haven.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>New Year\u2019s Day.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Transport for Wales will operate a full mainline service.<\/li>\n<li>There will be a reduced hourly service on local <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railadvent.co.uk\/2025\/12\/electric-wires-go-live-on-south-wales-railway-line.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cardiff and Valleys services (<\/a>Vale of Glamorgan via Barry, Rhymney, Aberdare and Merthyr).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sunday, 4th to Saturday, 24th January 2026<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There will be no trains on the Aberdare line to Pontypridd line because of safety-critical work on an embankment next to the railway line at Mountain Ash.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>fflecsi and TrawsCymru services<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>These will finish earlier on Christmas Eve and New Year\u2019s Eve.<\/li>\n<li>There will be no services on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year\u2019s Day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Further information about Christmas travel in Wales <a href=\"https:\/\/tfw.wales\/service-status\/christmas-travel-advice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout December, after 5 pm, there is a special \u00a31 fare on TrawsCymru; <a href=\"https:\/\/traws.cymru\/en\/1-bus-tickets-after-5pm-this-december\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">further information can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWith essential engineering work taking place, planning ahead has never been more important.
