(Photo supplied\/Wassayos Ngamkham)                        <\/p>\n<p>Former Olympic gold medalist Manus Boonjumnong,\u00a0who had been on the run since being convicted of lottery quota fraud, was arrested in Nonthaburi on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Pol Maj Gen Anek Taosuparp, commander of the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Division (NED), said police apprehended the 45-year-old ex-boxer in front of a condominium room in Muang district of Nonthaburi on Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Manus was wanted on separate arrest warrants for fraud issued by Don Mueang District Court on Jan 28 and March 28 this year, said Pol Maj Gen Anek.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, a victim filed a complaint with Don Muaeng police station, alleging that Manas had duped him into paying 2 million baht for a government lottery quota. Manus claimed he had obtained the quota through Somluck Kamsing, another former Olympic boxing champion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, the promised quota never materialised, and repeated attempts to recover the money failed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Manus was initially charged and released on bail, but failed to show up for court hearings.<\/p>\n<p>The court subsequently sentenced him to 18 months in prison for the first case and 15 months for the second, totalling two years and nine months, and issued arrest warrants.<\/p>\n<p>Following his arrest, Manas was brought before Don Mueang District Court and later transferred to Bangkok Remand Prison around noon to begin serving his sentence.<\/p>\n<p>During the transfer to the court, Manas made a lighted-hearted remark, saying: \u201cToday there\u2019s an SEA Games boxing championship in 12 categories.
