A 78-year-old woman who was fatally struck in a supermarket car park yesterday (December 18) has been named for the first time as police appeal for her family to come forward. Emergency services were called out to the ASDA<\/a> store on Greenfield Lane in Shaw, Oldham<\/a>, at 6.50pm following reports that a person had been hit by a car.<\/p>\n

The driver of a Peugeot Expert was making their way to the exit of the car park when they struck a woman<\/a> making her way back to her vehicle, according to GMP. She has now been identified as Margaret Crichton, from Oldham, and tragically died of the significant injuries she suffered in the collision.<\/p>\n

The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision \u2013 a 35-year-old man – has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is now working to identify Margaret’s family, who the force believe to be located in Manchester or Yorkshire.<\/p>\n

Anyone who might have known her or her family are asked to contact the SCIU on 0161 856 4741. Anyone who witnessed the incident, has any information on it or might have caught it on dashcam footage are also asked to come forward.<\/p>\n
