Police have labelled reports of gunshots in the city centre as fake as trouble broke out at the start of the Christmas<\/a> holidays.<\/p>\n

A number of young people have been engaging in anti-social behaviour around the centre on Friday afternoon (Dec 19).<\/p>\n

West Midlands Police<\/a> are aware of a firework being let off and are investigating but called reports of shots being fired “false.”<\/p>\n

A dispersal order is now in place and officers have increased patrols.<\/p>\n

Birmingham<\/a> will be busy with visitors to the Christmas markets and with many celebrating the start of the festive holidays.<\/p>\n

WMP said: “We have extra officers in Birmingham city centre<\/a> this evening due to reports of a number of young people involved in anti-social behaviour.<\/p>\n

“As ever, our focus is on keeping the city centre safe and welcoming for everyone, and a dispersal order is now in place which allows us to move on those we believe are contributing to ASB or crime.<\/p>\n

“We are aware of reports of a firework being let off and we are investigating this \u2013 but any reports of gunshots being fired are false.<\/p>\n

“This kind of behaviour will not be tolerated in Birmingham or anywhere in the West Midlands.<\/p>\n
