Last week, King Charles<\/a> appeared in Channel 4\u2019s Stand Up To Cancer broadcast with a pre-recorded message, and he shocked viewers by opening up about his ongoing cancer treatment. In it, he revealed the \u201cgood news\u201d that his cancer treatment would \u201cbe reduced in the New Year\u201d\u2014and according to royal expert Richard Kay, the monarch was sending a \u201chidden message\u201d to critics with this announcement. <\/p>\n

As Richard explained to the Daily Mail<\/a>, Charles\u2019 message was likely a response to the \u201cchatter around the Royal Family and the monarchy over the last few months,\u201d a lot of which has revolved around \u201ckind of monarch Prince William is going to make and what kind of changes he might be introducing when he gets his opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Per Richard, Charles\u2019 cancer treatment update \u201cwas just a little reminder [from] the King saying, \u2018Hello, I\u2019m still here. I\u2019m not going anywhere. And while I\u2019m King, we\u2019re going to do it my way.\u2019\u201d He added, \u201cI think that might just slap down one or two people who have been a little forward in their views.\u201d<\/p>\n

Charles first announced he had been diagnosed with cancer<\/a> in February 2024. Ahead of the holidays last year, palace sources noted that \u201chis treatment has been moving in a positive direction and as a managed condition the treatment cycle will continue<\/a> into next year,\u201d but the King seemingly had a setback in March 2025, when he was briefly hospitalized<\/a> due to side effects from his ongoing treatment.<\/p>\n

By April, insiders told Harper\u2019s Bazaar<\/a> that\u2014while there are no plans for Charles to abdicate<\/a>\u2014the royals have been preparing for William to become King \u201cearlier than expected\u201d for years now.<\/p>\n

This ^^^ all comes amid reports that the monarch has been quietly preparing himself for what might be his \u201clast Christmas\u201d<\/a> due to the fact that \u201chis health isn\u2019t the best\u201d\u2014and though his treatment will be \u201creduced\u201d in 2026, he is not totally in the clear yet. A spokesperson for the King later told CNN<\/a> that \u201cHis Majesty has responded exceptionally well to treatment and his doctors advise that ongoing measures will now move into a precautionary phase.\u201d<\/p>\n

The spokesperson added, \u201cThis position will be continuously monitored and reviewed to protect and prioritize his continued recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n
