We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.<\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"sc-1uza6dc-1 cglitp\">Your support makes all the difference.<\/strong>Read more<\/p>\n<p>NASA has released <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/space\/dark-energy-desi-universe-cosmos-b2523458.html\">a stunning new map of the cosmos, <\/a>one that the agency says could help scientists solve some of <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/space\/scientists-matter-antimatter-big-bang-balance-b2165073.html\">the universe\u2019s longstanding mysteries<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Taken using <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/space\/nasa-spherex-telescope-spacex-rocket-b2714192.html\">the agency\u2019s SPHEREx space telescope<\/a>, the first all-sky map simulates the instrument\u2019s three-dimensional view of the sky, including the burnt red cosmic dust, electric blue hydrogen gas and white, blue and green <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/space\/pristine-star-universe-astronomy-big-bang-b2842496.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stars<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The panoramic view captures these and dozens of other colors using the telescope\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/science\/night-vision-contact-lens-infrared-b2757495.html\">ability to see infrared wavelengths of light<\/a>, which <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/ems\/07_infraredwaves\/\">are invisible to the human eye<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The colors allow astronomers to measure the distance from the telescope to hundreds of millions of galaxies, with the map\u2019s three-dimensional view measuring how the galaxies captured are distributed across the universe. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/watch\/?v=794406746260151\">Redder galaxies are farther away<\/a> and closer ones appear blue, as light stretches or retracts, in a phenomenon known as \u201credshift.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scientists will use this data, collected since the telescope\u2019s launch into low-Earth orbit in March, to study how galaxies have changed over the universe\u2019s nearly 14 billion-year history and potentially learn more about how key ingredients for life were made in our Milky Way galaxy.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/e1a-SPHEREx_all_sky_stars_and_gas-dust.jpeg\"  loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"NASA's SPHEREx mapped the entire sky in 102 infrared colors to reveal the different features of the cosmos.
