Walsall<\/a> Council\u2019s cabinet meeting on December 10.<\/p>\nLeader of the authority, Councillor Mike Bird, asked the cabinet member for street scene, Councillor Suky Samra, for an update.<\/p>\n
Councillor Bird said \u2018those who don\u2019t understand the system\u2019 are making \u2018political statements against the council\u2019 on the delay.<\/p>\n
Councillor Samra said: \u201cWe built it super fast. The permits are almost there and we\u2019re hoping to open sometime late in January.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can\u2019t apply for the permits until you get through certain phases of the build.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis site will be future proof, it is a fantastic facility and I think we will be the talk of town when it comes to recycling, not just across the West Midlands but the UK.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe site offers what other sites have never previously offered and we will be opening it very soon.\u201d<\/p>\n
Councillor Bird said: \u201cYou can\u2019t apply for a permit until the building is completed, and as a result, there are those who don\u2019t understand the system who are trying to make political statements against this council.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs you say, it is a fantastic facility and I think it\u2019s the biggest in Europe.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will be the envy of other councils and as I always say, where Walsall leads, others follow.\u201d<\/p>\n
The new Household Waste Recycling Centre and Waste Transfer Station is located on the former McKennie Brass site, and will replace the existing tip at Merchants Way.<\/p>\n
Once the super tip is open, Walsall Council will close the Fryers Road tip in Bloxwich for redevelopment.<\/p>\n
