{"id":644045,"date":"2025-12-20T10:22:18","date_gmt":"2025-12-20T10:22:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/644045\/"},"modified":"2025-12-20T10:22:18","modified_gmt":"2025-12-20T10:22:18","slug":"bus-timetable-signs-in-leith-now-displaying-live-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/644045\/","title":{"rendered":"Bus timetable signs in Leith now displaying live times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SIGNS at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deadlinenews.co.uk\/tag\/buses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bus stops in Edinburgh<\/a> are now displaying live times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lothianbuses.com\/news\/2025\/12\/on-street-departure-signs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">and\u00a0additional\u00a0information across the city<\/a> due to an update to the way Lothian Buses and other operators\u00a0transmit\u00a0data to the council.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.deadlinenews.co.uk\/tag\/lothian-buses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lothian Buses<\/a> have been fitted with trackers for more than a year now, but information\u00a0has to\u00a0be transmitted to the council,\u00a0which\u00a0operates\u00a0the digital bus departure signs at bus stops.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At most bus stops throughout the city, live departure times were rolled out, but it took a bit longer for roads like Leith Walk, where screens had, until now, only displayed timetable information.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lothian Buses also announced that\u00a0it\u00a0would begin displaying live updates on diversions and part routes which could only previously be accessed online.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.deadlinenews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/LEITH_WALK_BUS_TRACKERS_DN01.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" data-dominant-color=\"788795\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #788795;\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"464\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" alt=\"The bus trackers were only displaying timetabled bus times until late last year and it has taken until last week to roll out live times to Leith Walk (C) Lothian Buses\" class=\"wp-image-1253087 not-transparent\" data-lazy- data-lazy- data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/LEITH_WALK_BUS_TRACKERS_DN01.jpg\"\/><\/a>The bus trackers were only displaying timetabled bus times until late last year and it has taken until last week to roll out live times to Leith Walk (C) Lothian Buses<\/p>\n<p>This was revealed by Liberal Democrat Councillor for Leith Walk\u00a0Jack\u00a0Caldwell\u00a0in\u00a0a\u00a0Facebook post.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In addition to information about Leith Walk trackers, he also pointed out that live times would continue to be unavailable at the\u00a0Pilrig\u00a0Street and Foot of the Walk stops due to a power supply issue and planned bus stop move, respectively.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Transport and Environment Convener, Councillor Stephen Jenkinson said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s fantastic to see the travel tracker upgrade being rolled out citywide. I\u2019m conscious this is something we\u2019ve been working on for some time and I\u2019m grateful for the patience of the travelling public as we get this right.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to encourage as many people as possible to use our award-winning public transport network, of which our buses remain a cornerstone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the busy festive period just around the corner, I\u2019m sure that this will be a great help to everyone getting around the city.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Services from other, non-Lothian operators will now also be visible on the trackers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, that point, as well as live updates for part routes and diversions are still in their testing and monitoring phase across the city.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on\u00a0changes on\u00a0its\u00a0website, Lothian Buses said: \u201cThe City of Edinburgh Council own and\u00a0operate\u00a0all digital\u00a0on-street\u00a0departure signs at bus stops across the city.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery operator providing bus services in the Edinburgh area is eligible to provide departure information to the on-street departure signs at\u00a0the City of Edinburgh Council\u2019s discretion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach operator assumes responsibility for the accuracy and quality of the information shown.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLothian\u00a0provide departure information for its services including Lothian Buses, Lothian Country, East Coast Buses, Airlink and Night Buses routes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe information from Lothian is provided in real time and as timetabled departures.
