David Gilmour<\/a>\u00a0has celebrated\u00a0Pink Floyd<\/a>\u2019s \u2018Wish You Were Here\u2019 landing the Christmas Number One album spot.<\/p>\n

The classic record has been reissued with new digital and physical editions for its 50th anniversary, and on Friday (December 19), it was announced that it had topped the Official Albums Chart for Christmas.<\/p>\n

The record did not top the charts on its original release in 1975, and its success means that Pink Floyd are now the artist with the longest span between their first and last Number One albums, clocking in at\u00a02,620 weeks, or over 50 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cRaising a glass to the wonderful news that Wish You Were Here is the UK\u2019s Christmas Number 1 album,\u201d Gilmour wrote on Instagram on Friday.<\/p>\n

It is Pink Floyd\u2019s second Number One album of the year, following on from \u2018Pink Floyd At Pompeii \u2013 MCMLXXII<\/a>\u2018, the live album of a 1971 show that was released as a concert film in 1972 and re-released\u00a0with newly mixed audio earlier this year.<\/p>\n

While it is the band\u2019s first Christmas Number One album, they did land the coveted Number One single in 1979 with \u2018Another Brick\u00a0In\u00a0The\u00a0Wall, Pt. 2\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018Wish You Were Here\u2019 tops the chart ahead of the latest albums from\u00a0Olivia Dean<\/a>,\u00a0Taylor Swift<\/a>,\u00a0Sabrina Carpenter<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Sam Fender<\/a>, as well as\u00a0Michael\u00a0Bubl\u00e9<\/a>\u2019s \u2018Christmas\u2019 record.<\/p>\n

    To mark the re-release of \u2018Wish You Were Here\u2019,\u00a0Pink Floyd\u00a0have\u00a0launched a series of pop-up stores across the UK,\u00a0Europe\u00a0and the US<\/a>, where they are also selling an exclusive edition of the Brain Damage fanzine.<\/p>\n

    Over on the singles chart,\u00a0Kylie Minogue bagged her first ever Christmas Number One with \u2018XMAS\u2019<\/a>, making her the first female solo artist to top the chart in four different decades. She successfully held off the challenge of festive perennials Wham!<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Mariah Carey<\/a>, and\u00a0scored the eighth\u00a0Number One single\u00a0of\u00a0her career.<\/p>\n
