After some pretty apocalyptic console sales in the US this November<\/a>, there were a few heart attacks this week when The Game Business<\/a> initially erroneously reported some dreadful results for the UK.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, it was an error, and PS5 did decent for the month overall \u2013 even if it was down year-over-year.<\/p>\n

According to the data corrected<\/a> by journalist Chris Dring, sales of Sony\u2019s console were down 29% compared to the same period in 2024. Annoyingly, though, the tracking period excludes Black Friday, where we know PS5 was up 16%<\/a> and commanded 62% market share.<\/p>\n

Right, sorry about that. Some double counting in the report.<\/p>\n

In the UK, Nintendo console sales (Switch 2 + Switch 1) are up 41% year-on-year, PS5 console sales were down 29%, and Xbox sales were down 51%. Overall, console sales for November (pre-Black Friday) were down 17%.<\/p>\n

When you take into account the PS5 Pro launch in 2024, this is an acceptable result overall \u2013 especially when you consider the current economic conditions. The manufacturer did offer some decent deals to keep thing steady, though.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s going to be interesting to see how things develop in 2026.<\/p>\n

On paper, the PS5 release schedule<\/a> is sublime, with dozens of titles that could theoretically boost sales \u2013 including the piece de resistance, GTA 6<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But economic conditions could also worsen, and there\u2019s still a possibility console prices may increase<\/a> again.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s preventing the Japanese giant from reaching the wider audience it\u2019s historically been able to unlock at this stage in the generation, and presents a massive challenge for the firm to navigate.<\/p>\n
