name for the jet in Southeast Asia \u2013 it could take longer than expected for the aircraft to receive a <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/economy\/china-economy\/article\/3264223\/chinas-c919-after-year-domestic-flights-preps-its-pitch-western-endorsement?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"noopener\">coveted endorsement<\/a> from the European Union\u2019s safety regulator.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">In remarks published by French magazine L\u2019Usine Nouvelle on Monday, Florian Guillermet, executive director of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), said certification for the narrowbody C919 \u2013 essential for the sale of any aircraft to European carriers \u2013 will not be granted this year.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cAs we informed them officially, the C919 cannot be certified in 2025 \u2026 We should be certifying the C919 within three to six years,\u201d Guillermet said.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Analysts did not expect the news to deter the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac), the jet\u2019s manufacturer, in its attempts to enter a major overseas market, as the company still has cards left to play.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cC919\u2019s reliability and safety have to be proven by more flights, and it is definitely normal for [the regulator] to have a sceptical and scrutinising attitude,\u201d aviation analyst Li Hanming said.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Following its first commercial flight in May 2023, Comac\u2019s plane has been in regular use on several domestic flight paths, transporting over 1 million passengers as of January
