A pensioner has died following a serious crash outside Rathfriland, police have confirmed.<\/p>\n

The PSNI said 93-year-old Patrick Joseph Brady \u2013 also known as Patsy \u2013 passed away at the scene of the crash on the Newry Road.<\/p>\n

They said the incident happened at around 10.45pm and involved a silver Toyota Avensis and a pedestrian.<\/p>\n

PSNI Chief Inspector Simpson of the Police Service of Northern Ireland\u2019s Collision Investigation Unit said: \u201cOur officers attended alongside emergency service partners, however the pedestrian was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was 93-year-old Patrick Joseph Brady (Patsy), from the Barnmeen area.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this time, we don\u2019t believe that the driver of the Toyota has sustained serious injury.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Newry Road was closed overnight but has since re-opened.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur enquiries are continuing, and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have digital footage which could assist with our investigation, to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 1587 20\/12\/25.\u201d<\/p>\n

It comes after the Ormeau Road in Belfast was closed for over three hours at Stranmillis Embankment on Saturday evening.<\/p>\n

It was then reopened shortly before 10pm, with the incident not believed to be as serious as first feared.<\/p>\n
