Shabz Miah, who manages the Dilqush Indian Restaurant and Takeaway in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/birkenhead\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Birkenhead<\/a>, said they were just about hanging on.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">In a recent post on their <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/facebook\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Facebook<\/a> page, the restaurant on <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/work-complete-wirral-road-colourful-32792511\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Grange Road West<\/a> said: \u201cIt truly saddens us to say this, but due to a lack of dine-in customers we may be forced to close our restaurant in the near future. We\u2019re reaching out to our amazing local community for support.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cThe road outside has now fully reopened, and we would really appreciate it if more of you could dine in with us and help keep a local independent business alive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">While not on the section of the road dubbed \u201cWotsit street\u201d for <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/came-over-liverpool-laugh-wotsit-32832550\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">its colourful road markings,<\/a> the restaurant said: \u201cThe long period of roadworks has had a big impact on our dine-in trade, even though our food continues to be loved by many.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/0_Shabz-Miah-from-Dilqush-Indian-Restaurant-TakeawayGrange-Road-WestBirkenheadbusiness-effected-b.jp.jpeg\" alt=\"The business opened last year as a family run restaurant\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The business opened last year as a family run restaurant(Image: Andrew Teebay Liverpool Echo)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Shabz Miah, who manages the restaurant, said the recent regeneration works in Birkenhead town centre had impacted their business as barriers and delays put people off visiting. They opened as a family run restaurant in July 2024, just a few months after works began.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The works were <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/merseyside-town-centre-project-set-32902688\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">part of a major regeneration scheme<\/a> with new paving, road layouts, benches, and trees with <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/new-look-town-high-street-32980645\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">most of it now finished.<\/a> Grange Road West has been turned into a temporary one way street with an orange and yellow design.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">He said: \u201cIt\u2019s been almost a year. We get really good feedback from people. Our takeaway side has been brilliant but the dining side has been dead. It\u2019s been costly for us at the moment because we can\u2019t get many dining in.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cWe are just about hanging on with it. We have to pay wages and then the electricity bill is quite high.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cThe big part to blame is the road works that are always going on for so long. People do not want to come in that way with the delays and the traffic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cEveryone has laughed at the road because of what they have done with the road markings and the benches. I would say that is one of the biggest reasons that we do not have that many people coming inside.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cIt was supposed to be different, like Bold Street in Liverpool but it\u2019s nothing like that. We thought we will just get a little foot traffic, we thought it would look a bit nicer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">However since the post, he said they had had some of the busiest days in the restaurant since they opened, adding: \u201cOur local community has been fantastic to us. They do not want us to go.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cWith the customers support, we can go forward rather than sitting in the same position. We do not want to let go of this. Several businesses who previously spoke to the ECHO said they wanted <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/i-no-clue-whats-going-32651205\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">full pedestrianisation and criticised the current layout.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The local authority has also offered free car parking at its multistorey car parks as well as a number of events in the town centre.
