A man died after a stabbing at an address on Swanage Road in Small Heath last night<\/p>\n

Shocked residents have told how their quiet cul-de-sac was suddenly ‘lit up by blue lights’ as armed police rushed to the scene of a fatal stabbing last night.<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called to a terraced home on Swanage Road in Small Heath<\/a> after reports of a stabbing at 6.40pm yesterday, Saturday, December 20.<\/p>\n

A man was given CPR by police and paramedics in a desperate attempt to save his life.<\/p>\n

Sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

A blue forensic tent had earlier been set up in the the garden of a home at the scene. Locals said that was where police found the victim.<\/p>\n

A 28-year-old man was held by armed police. Police said the suspect has been arrested on suspicion of murder.<\/p>\n

He remains in custody.<\/p>\n

One resident told BirminghamLive: “Our street was lit up by blue lights. It’s normally very quiet here.”<\/p>\n

Another said he believed the house where the incident happened was an HMO.<\/p>\n

A different local added: “It’s awful just before Christmas<\/a> for this to happen. My heart goes out to the man’s family.”<\/p>\n

Police forensic vans were parked in the middle of the street today, Sunday, December 21. A police officer stood guard outside a house.<\/p>\n

A police spokesperson said: “A murder investigation is underway after we were called to reports of a stabbing at an address on Swanage Road, shortly after 6.40pm last night (20 Dec).<\/p>\n

“Tragically, nothing could be done to save the man and he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

“A man aged, 28, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.<\/p>\n

“We are in the early stages of our investigation, and a scene remains in place while we carry out urgent enquiries in the area to establish exactly what happened.<\/p>\n
