The <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/dwp\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">DWP<\/a> has confirmed the state pension and Universal Credit face payment date overhaul for January 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Retirees could be paid state pensions and claimants their DWP benefits earlier than expected due to bank holidays in the New Year, it has been announced. B enefit claimants who receive payments on the first of every month will instead get their cash on December 31, 2025 instead of New Year&#8217;s Day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">This is due to it being a bank holiday. While the vast majority of benefits will be paid on their regular payment date, the following payments will be paid on December 31 instead of January 1 if someone usually gets paid on the first of the month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/motoring\/motoring-news\/drivers-face-non-refundable-1800-33096059\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">READ MORE Some drivers face &#8216;non-refundable&#8217; \u00a31,800 fee to access OWN driveway<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The list includes <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/universal-credit\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Universal Credit<\/a>, State pension and Pension Credit as well as HMRC Child Benefit, Disability living allowance (DLA) and Personal Independence Payment (PIP).<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Other benefits include Attendance Allowance, Carer\u2019s Allowance, Employment support allowance (ESA), Income support and Jobseeker\u2019s Allowance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">In Scotland, benefit claimants who receive certain payments on the second of the month will also get paid on December 31 as January 2 is also a bank holiday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The DWP said: &#8220;Benefits are usually paid straight into your bank, building society or credit union account. If your payment date is on a weekend or a bank holiday you\u2019ll usually be paid on the working day before. This may be different for Child Benefit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Benefits are usually paid straight into your bank, building society or credit union account.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">If your payment date is on a weekend or a bank holiday you\u2019ll usually be paid on the working day before.
