A regeneration boss has set out a vision for town centre living in \u2018overlooked and under invested\u2019 areas of Greater Manchester.<\/p>\n
Tim Heatley, co-founder of Capital & Centric has hailed its Farnworth Green development as an example of regeneration in \u2018less fashionable, less thought of\u2019 towns.<\/p>\n
His company have recently signed a partnership with Homes England to invest \u00a3860M into similar projects which would equate to around 2,500 homes over the next 10 years.<\/p>\n
Farnworth Green is the town centre\u2019s flagship development of 97 homes, completed earlier this year. It is fully-let to residential tenants.<\/p>\n
Earlier this year, the new central neighbourhood was held up \u2018as an example for others to follow\u2018 in Greater Manchester. Farnworth was put centre stage at the official launch of the new Greater Manchester Strategy, with the town\u2019s regeneration and \u2018homes on the high street\u2019 hailed as a way forward for the region\u2019s district centres.<\/p>\n
Mr Heatley said Tameside<\/a>, Rochdale<\/a> and Bury<\/a> were areas his company was seeking to invest but \u2018every one of the 10 GM boroughs has got huge areas that would benefit from this approach to regeneration\u2019.<\/p>\n He said: \u201cOur gut feeling is we can all see the city centre of Manchester growing at a rapid rate of knots.<\/p>\n \u201cThe height and scale of the towers is like a visual dam for the amount of people moving into the place, they\u2019re just getting higher and taller.<\/p>\n \u201cUltimately a lot of the people living there want to be in a suburb because they want better access to services like healthcare, schools and early education and access to green spaces. \u201cThey also want cheaper accommodation.\u201d<\/p>\n He added: \u201cWe\u2019ve got outrageously expensive apartments in the city centre, horrendously high rents, but that\u2019s where the market is. \u201cAt Farnworth Green we\u2019ve got residents who have wanted to move out to the suburbs, somewhere more affordable and also we\u2019ve got other residents here who might work in the city or nearby, a lot work at the hospital.<\/p>\n \u201cIn Farnworth they haven\u2019t had access to high quality homes at a rent that\u2019s affordable. \u201cI\u2019m not saying it\u2019s cheap I\u2019m saying that it\u2019s a rent that can be afforded if you\u2019re working.\u201d<\/p>\n Mr Heatley said the future of Greater Manchester regeneration would see people living in the less fashionable, the less thought of, the more overlooked parts of the region.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s those areas where you can create public spaces, at Farnworth Green we\u2019ve handed back private land in the shape of a public square,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Areas where Capital & Centric are looking to invest include \u2018under invested and overlooked\u2019 areas in Tameside, Rochdale and Bury.<\/p>\n \u201cThese areas now need to see the benefit of the growth of the city centre,\u201d Mr Heatley said.<\/p>\n \u201cIn order to make any town successful you need to attract more customers to it in addition to housing. \u201cWhat we\u2019ve done at Farnworth Green is a combination.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s lots of locals living here but also others who aren\u2019t from the area, some aren\u2019t necessarily from Greater Manchester or even the UK.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s an international city region that we live in and that should be celebrated and encouraged because people coming to live here have high earning potential<\/p>\n \u201cWe want them to stay here and create wealth here and help regenerate town\u2019s like Farnworth from the inside out.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A leading developer believes more people will seek to live in new homes in \u2018under invested and overlooked\u2019…\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":647197,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[8813],"tags":[279,748,393,4884,2465,16,15],"class_list":{"0":"post-647196","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-manchester","8":"tag-bolton","9":"tag-britain","10":"tag-england","11":"tag-great-britain","12":"tag-manchester","13":"tag-uk","14":"tag-united-kingdom"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/115760184490038279","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/647196","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=647196"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/647196\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/647197"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=647196"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=647196"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=647196"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}![](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/0_IMG_2080jpeg.jpg\")
