<\/p>\nThe Met Office has released its verdict on the chance of a picturesque White Christmas over the next few days. <\/p>\n
While many in the UK are braced for disappointment, fresh weather data reveals where and when snow can be expected over the festive period.<\/p>\n
Forecasters have indicated that Britain faces a “very low chance” of experiencing widespread snowfall on December 25. <\/p>\n
Instead, high-pressure systems are anticipated to deliver dry and settled conditions across the country.<\/p>\n
Temperatures are expected to sit at average levels or slightly below for late December, though nothing particularly cold is forecast.<\/p>\n
Rather than the wintry white scenes many dream of, overnight frost and freezing fog are far more probable.<\/p>\n
The Met Office has confirmed that no snow currently appears in their predictions for the festive period.<\/p>\n
Meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth explained the prediction, outlining three potential weather patterns for Christmas Day.<\/p>\n
Britons will not see the picturesque scenes of a White Christmas this year<\/p>\n

The most probable scenario, carrying a 49 per cent likelihood, involves an anticyclonic northerly positioned over the Irish Sea, which would generate northerly winds and suppress any precipitation.<\/p>\n
A second possibility, with just 12 per cent probability, sees an anticyclonic east-southeasterly centred above Denmark, potentially bringing easterly winds and some showers to western regions.<\/p>\n
The third scenario, equally rated at 12 per cent, features an anticyclonic southwesterly situated over northern France, which would produce southwesterly winds and somewhat milder temperatures than the other outcomes.<\/p>\n
Ms Shuttleworth summarised the outlook by stating: “All of these show high pressure dominating the weather and most slightly colder than average, but nothing exceptionally cold.<\/p>\n

In the New Year, snow is expected in the North of England and Scotland <\/p>\n

“So there is a very low chance of any widespread white Christmas at all at this time in any of these outcomes.”<\/p>\n
However, not all is lost as new data shows that snow will fall over Britain in the new year. <\/p>\n
On January 2, areas around Birmingham and near Manchester can expect 1cm of snow. <\/p>\n
Heavy falls will be seen in the North East of England and the borders, with 2cm of coverage. <\/p>\n
In Scotland, the Central Belt can expect falls of between 1 and 2cm.<\/p>\n
However, the heaviest snow across the UK will be seen in the Highlands with a minimum cover of 4cm near Aberdeen. <\/p>\n
