Some Mancunian images only work with one brand(Image: Manchester Evening News &#8211; Ben Radford\/Allsport &#8211; Nick Potts\/PA Wire)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">There are some famous Mancunian images forever tied to one brand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The Gallaghers, moody and confident in Adidas, \u201894. Solskjaer, sliding and smiling in Umbro, \u201899. Rodri, firing home in Istanbul in Puma, \u201823.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Each photo shows a city in its pomp: Liam and Noel were ready to take over the world in that Definitely Maybe photoshoot. Ole knew he\u2019d given United their greatest ever day at the Nou Camp. And Rodri made City history.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Images like these put brands at the core of a city\u2019s consciousness and fashionability. They\u2019re why major sportswear companies spend billions to get trend-setters wearing their clobber, with Puma\u2019s latest deal with City, signed earlier this year, worth \u00a31b over the next decade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">But something new\u2019s happening in Manchester\u2019s sports fashion world. Major brands are not just spending big to piggyback the city\u2019s urban cool \u2014 they\u2019re moving here to live and breathe it.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/0_Ole-Gunnar-Solskjaer-celebrates-scoring-the-second-goal-for-Manchester-United.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>(Image: Manchester Evening News.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Although Greater Manchester has a long history of sportswear production, with Reebok forming in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/bolton\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Bolton<\/a> in 1958 and Umbro just over the border in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/wilmslow\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Wilmslow<\/a> 101 years ago, the recent trend sees these companies move back, and outsiders follow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Umbro\u2019s now headquartered in the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/northern-quarter\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Northern Quarter<\/a> and Puma moves into a shiny new UK headquarters on <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/oxford-road\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Oxford Road<\/a> this month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Other recent arrivals include Castore, originally Liverpudlian, the manufacturers of the England rugby union team\u2019s kit. Lifestyle leisure brand Adanola was founded in Manchester in 2015, and new names still pop up, like night-time running brand Solis.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/0_Manchester-City-v-Inter-Milan-UEFA-Champions-League-Final-Ataturk-Olympic-Stadium.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>(Image: PA)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">This isn\u2019t down to fortune, though. It\u2019s been a targeted campaign, partially orchestrated by the council, to keep graduates in the city with top jobs, including those from Manchester Met\u2019s prestigious fashion courses, council leader Bev Craig told the Local Democracy Reporting Service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cThere are some [major firms] we actively pursue,\u201d she explained. \u201cThere are some we actively encourage, so they&#8217;ll come to us and say they&#8217;re interested in Manchester.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cWe can show them around, we&#8217;ll connect them into the right kind of properties and developments. And there are some that come here just because of the broadening of the city that we&#8217;ve cultivated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Although Puma is moving up from the capital, Coun Craig added \u2018the challenge\u2019 is \u2018less\u2019 convincing Londoners Manchester is a nice place to live and work. It\u2019s convincing international firms to choose the second city when they\u2019re weighing up \u2018Manchester or Lyon, Manchester or Amsterdam, Manchester or Stockholm\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/0_Headline.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>(Image: ABNM Photography)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/labour-party\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Labour<\/a> leader went on: \u201cThere is a job that we have to sell Manchester now is not the Manchester like in 1991 or when watching Oasis the first time. We do have a big job on what modern Manchester does, and we have to sell that really hard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Having a cool \u2018brand Manchester\u2019 and enterprising council is one thing, but having space for these businesses to work is another. It\u2019s why developers sometimes go after blue-chip names, Bruntwood SciTech\u2019s Josh Whiteley explained.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The man behind Puma\u2019s Circle Square move said: \u201cWe\u2019d always targeted Puma because we were aware of their presence in Manchester, and they were aware of the convergence of tech, fashion, and advanced materials.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cWhen we were initially looking at Circle Square we weren\u2019t sure of the size requirement for Puma because they were in a much smaller amount of space in the city. But as soon as we realised it was a larger requirement\u2026 we got in touch directly with Lucinda [Davis, Puma\u2019s UK managing director].<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cThe pitch was about innovation opportunities but also being able to relocate to a best-in-class workspace, and if you\u2019re relocating the HQ, you want to be in the most vibrant part of the city with best access to talent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">It took less than two months from first contact with Ms Davis and the two signing a deal in principle, the Puma boss told the LDRS. She said it was an easy decision to make: \u201cThe energy and vibe Manchester brings, you can feel it. There\u2019s a lot of creatives in the city.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1_3376.png\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>(Image: Solis)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cBut ultimately it\u2019s also about the location and proximity to a lot of our business. A lot of the industry is in this area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Manchester\u2019s vibrancy is also encouraging entrepreneurs to shoot their shot and start their own businesses, like Cameron Shahidi.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">He and partner Olivia White founded Solis Running earlier this year, spotting a gap in the market with ultra-reflective running gear for long Mancunian nights. He said it was a \u2018no brainer\u2019 to set up here.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">He explained: \u201cWe were never going to go to London. It does not connect to us like Manchester does.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cIf brands continue to set-up here, it will continue to push [the idea] people seem to want to do well.
