{"id":648326,"date":"2025-12-22T13:11:24","date_gmt":"2025-12-22T13:11:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/648326\/"},"modified":"2025-12-22T13:11:24","modified_gmt":"2025-12-22T13:11:24","slug":"career-optimism-among-northern-ireland-professionals-at-its-lowest-level-since-pandemic-the-irish-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/648326\/","title":{"rendered":"Career optimism among Northern Ireland professionals at its lowest level since pandemic \u2013 The Irish News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Nearly two-thirds of professionals in Northern Ireland plan to look for a new job in the next 12 months, a new survey suggests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Research published by the recruitment multinational Hays found 61% of professionals in the north expect to change roles in the coming year, compared to 52% in the same survey last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A total of 315 professionals and employers in Northern Ireland took part in the annual research, which was conducted at the end of September.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Hays Salary &amp; Recruiting Trends 2026 report pointed to greater sense of pessimism among the professional workforce, with just 36% of respondents in Northern Ireland feeling positive about their career prospects for next year &#8211; a decline from 45% a year ago.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/news\/business\/co-antrim-fragrance-firm-jaq-group-announce-160-new-jobs-to-support-expansion-into-eu-and-us-markets-KJX7IANPD5BKBJHP2UGXQANP6M\/\" aria-hidden=\"true\" tabindex=\"-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Co Antrim fragrance firm JAQ Group announce 160 new jobs to support expansion into EU and US markets\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/YGJXBWDTH5GNHKPSTC376QASXU.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/><\/a><a class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/news\/business\/uk-government-threatens-car-manufacturers-with-new-legislation-if-they-fail-to-adopt-dual-marking-to-ensure-all-models-can-be-sold-in-northern-ireland-I6ESD7HGPJHIVK7FIAGIIRS4GU\/\" aria-hidden=\"true\" tabindex=\"-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"UK Government threatens car manufacturers with new legislation if they fail to adopt dual-marking to ensure all models can be sold in Northern Ireland\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/V2OQ5KOQ2FDCPCLEW677ZVDFKM.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Just over half (52%) said they were uncertain about what\u2019s around the corner, with 12% feeling negative.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The findings were broadly in line with the responses from Hays\u2019 wider survey, which involved around 5,100 professionals and employers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Hays said it marks the lowest level of career optimism since the first year of the pandemic, when only 37% of workers reported feeling positive about their future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Respondents in Northern Ireland were more pessimistic when it came to career progression.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Some 53% in the north believe there\u2019s no scope for them to progress their career in their current organisation, compared to 48% across the wider UK survey.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Hays said if workers hold true to their intentions \u2013 employers should expect to face mounting challenges in retaining talent. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The biggest obstacles employers cited in holding onto staff include an inability to match market salary expectations; a competitive job market attracting talent elsewhere; high workloads and burnout; and a lack of clear career progression opportunities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Hays said the survey suggests job-seeking professionals are looking beyond salary. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A positive work atmosphere topped the list of priorities, followed by a strong benefits package, job location, and career development opportunities. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Just over half (53%) said they accept a lower-paid role for better work-life balance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">However, salary satisfaction has also slipped, with 44% of professionals in Northern Ireland stating they are unhappy with their salary or rate of pay &#8211;
