The car’s camera will record drivers who park on school keep clear zig zags, red routes, and bus stops<\/p>\n

This is the first look at a new council vehicle designed to catch out drivers who cannot park properly.The Mobile Enforcement Vehicle (MEV) is equipped with high-definition cameras and will film those who ‘plonk’ their cars in yellow school keep clear zones, red routes and bus stops.<\/p>\n

The unassuming-looking MEV uses an intelligent enforcement system supported by GPS technology to identify where parking restrictions start and end.<\/p>\n

It records video evidence of suspected parking contraventions, which will then be reviewed by an independent officer.<\/p>\n

If confirmed, the driver will receive a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN), supported by photographic evidence, in the post.<\/p>\n

The car is expected to be deployed in areas heavily affected by bad parking around the city.<\/p>\n

It is hoped it will lead to greater safety for pupils and pedestrians, reduce congestion, improve bus journey times and provide a visible deterrent to vehicle-related offences.<\/p>\n

The vehicle is now going through the final phases of testing before hitting the streets in January.<\/p>\n
