One of the busiest air travel days of the year has seen thousands of passengers passing through Northern Ireland<\/a> airports to make it home for Christmas<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Belfast international airport\u2019s arrivals gate was full of anticipating relatives, welcome banners and festive cheers as families were reunited on Monday.<\/p>\n

One man made his journey home to Belfast from the other side of the world. <\/p>\n

Conor Keenan has been living in Australia for three years and his mum, Grainne Keenan was at the arrivals gate to welcome him home.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy son has come from Australia with his girlfriend Sabrina, who\u2019s from Malaysia. This is her first time in Ireland,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy other son was home from Australia this morning with his girlfriend from Hong Kong, so it is going to be a full house this Christmas. We\u2019ll do all the touristy things, the Giants Causeway, and a big family Christmas while they\u2019re all here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following the journey of over 9,000 miles, Conor said nothing beats seeing the family at Christmas.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe flight is long enough, but it\u2019s grand, I\u2019m used it by this stage, I\u2019ve been there for three years. I still love to come home for Christmas it\u2019s good to see the family. That is the thing I\u2019m most excited about, not the weather anyway like, it doesn\u2019t compare to Australia.\u201d<\/p>\n

Susie Hamilton arrived home with her children Poppy and Rafi.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe live in London and we\u2019ve come home for Christmas from Essex,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s so lovely and so nice to come back and see everyone at Christmas. We are staying with my sister and seeing all the family, we haven\u2019t been back for quite a while.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Stead family patiently waited for their relatives with a banner for thier arrive from Durham. <\/p>\n

Speaking as they waited for their arrival, daughter Laura said: \u201cWe are here to pick up my mum and dad who\u2019ve come from England\u2026 We are ready and waiting for the whole family to be together for Christmas. Tonight, we are going up to Antrim castle lights, then we will all be in the house with plenty of Christmas goodies.”<\/p>\n

James Davoll was also happy to be back in Belfast.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m originally from here so I\u2019ve been back for a while, the kids have come to join us today to spend time with their grandparents. The last time they\u2019ve been over to see them was last Christmas. So, we\u2019re really excited.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thomas Hilton said: \u201cWe are visiting family, we came from Norwich, to see granny and grandpa.
