Rent in Barnet rose 7% over the past year, new figures show.<\/p>\n

Propertymark, a membership organisation for estate agents, warned \u201cthere remains an unhealthy imbalance\u201d between rental supply and demand.<\/p>\n

Provisional figures from the Office for National Statistics<\/a> show the average private rent in Barnet reached \u00a31,916 per month in the year to November\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 up 7% from \u00a31,793 a year prior.<\/p>\n

It was also up 29% from an estimated \u00a31,487 a month five years ago.<\/p>\n

Valuation Office Agency rent officers collect prices from a variety of sources, including landlords and letting agents, with the aim to collect data on approximately 10% of the market.<\/p>\n

Across London<\/a>, the average rent was \u00a32,271 \u2013 rising 3% from the year before.<\/p>\n

Kensington and Chelsea had the highest rental cost in the region at \u00a33,634 per month, while the lowest was in Bexley at \u00a31,521.<\/p>\n

In November, the average private rent in Great Britain was \u00a31,377 per month. This was \u00a357, or 4%, higher than 12 months ago.<\/p>\n

Nathan Emerson, chief executive of Propertymark, said: \u201cThough it might be disappointing for many to see that rents on average have increased overall, it is encouraging to see that through 2025, we have witnessed rental inflation trending downwards.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere remains an unhealthy imbalance between rental supply and demand, however, which continues to contribute to rental prices edging upwards.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has been positive to see attention focused on ensuring higher standards and greater consumer protection for those who choose to rent during the year; however, it also remains fundamentally important that investment is encouraged to keep pace with ever-growing demand, as the population continues to expand.\u201d<\/p>\n

The figures also show the different costs for various homes in Barnet, from \u00a31,473 for a one-bed property to \u00a33,153 for a home with four or more bedrooms in\u00a0November.<\/p>\n
