The Finnish Aviation Union (IAU) has announced walkouts at Helsinki Airport on Friday, May 2 and Monday, May 5.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The airline warned that the industrial action \u201cwill affect many functions that are essential for Finnair\u2019s flights during the day\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">As a result they have taken the decision to cancel several flights while those that do go ahead could be subject to delays.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Passengers have also been warned that short-haul flights that do go ahead may not be loaded with meals or baggage. The airline\u2019s long-haul routes are not impacted.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/0_Finnair-celebrates-30-years-of-direct-flights-from-Manchester-to-Helsinki.jpg\" alt=\"A Finnair plane\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Finnair has cancelled flights due to strike action at Helsinki airport (Image: PC Agency)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">According to Flight Radar, the 10.05am Finnair flight AY1362 to Helsinki and the 5.20pm Finnair flight AY1366 to Helsinki have both been cancelled from <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/manchester-airport\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Manchester Airport<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Manchester Airport website currently shows the Finnair flights departing on Monday, May 5 as scheduled to go ahead. The website Flight Aware shows that Finnair has cancelled 71 flights globally tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In a statement on its website, Finnair said: \u201cThe Finnish Aviation Union (IAU) has announced work stoppages at Helsinki Airport on 2 and 5 May 2025. The industrial action on 2 May will affect many functions that are essential for Finnair&#8217;s flights during the day, such as aircraft maintenance, ground handling operations and catering services at Helsinki Airport.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cAs a result, we must cancel several flights, and flight delays are also possible. Unfortunately, it is possible that some of the operated flights cannot be loaded with meals or baggage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cOn Finnair\u00b4s short haul flights, only water and juice are available in Economy Class, in Business Class also coffee and tea are served. Our long-haul flights are not impacted by the catering limitations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Finnair said it was \u201cstill assessing the impact on flights for May 5\u201d and that passengers would be contacted personally via SMS and email if their flight is impacted.
