Thomas Tuchel will be hoping to enjoy some much-needed time off over Christmas<\/a>, with the England<\/a> boss soon set to start planning the Three Lions\u2019 World Cup<\/a> campaign. Tuchel<\/a>\u2019s side now know the teams they will take on in the group stage, having been drawn to face Croatia, Ghana and Panama.<\/a><\/p>\n

And while he will be aiming to enjoy the festive period, the German might understandably be turning his phone off having lost his job with former club Paris Saint-Germain<\/a> on Christmas Eve back in 2020.<\/p>\n

Tuchel, 52, was appointed in the French capital in 2018 and won back-to-back Ligue 1 titles, the Coupe de France and also led PSG<\/a> to the Champions League<\/a> final in 2020. But that was not enough to see the German coach keep his job, having been informed on Christmas Eve that he was to leave following a number of disagreements with club chiefs..<\/p>\n

An announcement over his sacking, however, did not come for another few days. Once it did, PSG confirmed that Tuchel had been jettisoned after an \u201cin-depth analysis of its sporting situation\u201d.<\/p>\n

A statement from PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi read: \u201cI would like to thank Thomas Tuchel and his staff for everything they brought to the club.<\/p>\n

“Thomas has put a lot of energy and passion into his work, and of course we will remember the good times we shared together. I wish him the best for his future.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe missed winning the Champions League by one match,\u201d Tuchel said about his time at the Parc des Princes. \u201cAnd we never had the feeling that we had convinced people and that they recognised our performance. Sometimes that makes you a little sad or angry.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cDuring the first six months I was asking myself, \u2018Am I still a coach or a minister of sport?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

PSG eventually chose to replace Tuchel with former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino<\/a>, while Christophe Galtier and Luis Enrique have since taken the reins in Paris. Tuchel, in the meantime, has been on quite the journey since leaving France.<\/p>\n

He enjoyed a trophy-laden couple of years with Chelsea<\/a>, including winning the Champions League, before once again seeing the axe fall on him. His next port of call was at Bayern Munich<\/a>, where he secured the Bundesliga crown, only to be sacked once again.<\/p>\n

Tuchel was appointed as England boss<\/a> at the start of this year and has since led the Three Lions to a flawless qualifying campaign for the 2026 World Cup. And allowing for an extraordinary turn of events, he looks sure to hold onto his job for this Christmas at least.<\/p>\n
