A fire tore through a restaurant on Christmas Eve. The Medusa restaurant in Waterloo<\/a> is closed following the blaze<\/a> in the kitchen yesterday afternoon.<\/p>\n

There were no injuries following the incident <\/a>at the Greek restaurant on St Johns Road, the venue said. It is understood a fire took hold in the open kitchen following a fryer malfunction.<\/p>\n

Management said the restaurant will be closed for “at least a few days” while the damage is assessed. Images shared by the venue show the kitchen blackened as firefighters respond to the incident with hoses.<\/p>\n

In a statement to social media, management at Medusa said: “Due to a malfunctioning fryer there was a fire at Medusa this afternoon.<\/p>\n

“No one was seriously hurt but we will be closed for at least a few days while we assess the damage and try to put Medusa back together again. We appreciate your patience and we hope to be open again soon”<\/p>\n

The blaze follows another restaurant fire the previous day (December 23) at Noya Mediterranean Restaurant on Ford Road in Upton<\/a>. Fire crews were called to the blaze at around 8.50pm on December 23, following reports that a grill had caught fire.<\/p>\n

Footage shared on social media shows flames at the rear of the building,<\/a> with thick black smoke billowing into the air. Posts online claimed the restaurant was fully evacuated and the incident was dealt with safely.<\/a><\/p>\n

Despite dramatic footage of flames and smoke to the back of the building, restaurant management said the venue would be back up and running by the afternoon of Christmas Eve.<\/p>\n
