A Christmas Eve storm<\/a> is bringing severe flooding, evacuations and road closures across the High Desert, prompting Gov. Gavin Newsom to issue a regional “state of emergency.”<\/p>\n

The downpour on Wednesday, Dec. 24, also prompted evacuation warnings<\/a> and “shelter in place” orders in some hardest-hit communities.<\/p>\n

Many residents of Wrightwood began their day under evacuation warning, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. Localized flooding shut down numerous streets, including many roadways in Hesperia. Stretches and lanes along Highway 138, Highway 18 and the 15 Freeway were also closed, Caltrans officials said.<\/p>\n
