But it has a markedly modern twist with the physical and mental abuse plot lines in the film.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Seyfried, who is known for her roles in Mamma Mia! and Mean Girls, believes the cast &#8220;nailed getting the tone right&#8221; and hopes that despite the movie being entertainment, that people &#8220;come out with a better understanding of domestic violence&#8221; and &#8220;broaden their horizons&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">She adds that this is &#8220;especially&#8221; true for &#8220;people who haven&#8217;t thankfully had to deal with it&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">This is echoed by director Paul Feig, who admits he was &#8220;nervous&#8221; about handling the subject sensitively.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I made sure there wasn&#8217;t any physical abuse, that it was more psychological abuse,&#8221; he says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Domestic abuse in film has become a hot topic for Hollywood, sparked by the promotional tour for 2024 film It Ends With Us, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c2dgexyxneko\" class=\"ssrcss-f6h2dj-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">which was criticised by some<\/a> for packaging it as a romantic story rather than one of abuse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Sklenar, who appears in both The Housemaid and It Ends With Us, says it is &#8220;challenging&#8221; to take on the role of an abuser.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He describes his characters &#8211; Andrew Winchester in The Housemaid and Atlas Corrigan in It Ends With Us &#8211; as &#8220;polar opposites&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;When it comes to acting, you can try all you want, but ultimately sometimes it just affects you,&#8221; he says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;It&#8217;s intense and it&#8217;s ultimately going to affect you in certain ways.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Seyfried&#8217;s character Nina grapples with complex mental health issues throughout the film, which at times make it a&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":655078,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[9],"tags":[77,16,15],"class_list":{"0":"post-655077","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-entertainment","8":"tag-entertainment","9":"tag-uk","10":"tag-united-kingdom"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/655077","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=655077"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/655077\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/655078"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=655077"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=655077"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=655077"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
