Taskmaster<\/a> star Mathew Baynton<\/a> has revealed he\u2019s done something he may regret for the rest of his life.<\/p>\n

The Ghosts<\/a> actor and comedian, 44, is joining Brooklyn Nine-Nine\u2019s Jason Mantzoukas, Fatiha El-Ghorri, Rosie Ramsey<\/a> and Stevie Martin<\/a> on the new season of Greg Davies and Alex Horne<\/a>\u2019s chaotic Channel 4<\/a> show.<\/p>\n

The beloved Bafta award-winning series is returning with the five stars set to take part in a new batch of wild challenges, and Mathew has already teased what we can expect.<\/p>\n

\u2018I did something it\u2019s fair to say I might regret for the rest of my life,\u2019 he admitted.<\/p>\n

In an exclusive interview with Metro ahead of the new series airing, the Horrible Histories legend continued: \u2018The bizarre thing about that is that no one is telling you what to do, it\u2019s your decision.<\/p>\n

\u2018So I was the maker of my own misfortune in that sense\u2026 it\u2019s like you just go into this strange mental space, and all you\u2019re thinking about is the task, and you\u2019re being forced to make decisions quite quickly, and you just do it and throw yourself into it.<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s only when you\u2019re in the car on the way home that you think, \u201cOh s**t, that\u2019s going on TV, that\u2019s going to last forever\u201d.\u2019<\/p>\n

The comic elsewhere revealed he had a \u2018momentary wobble\u2019 before signing up to the show, fearing \u2018submitting myself to public judgement\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018It is a strangely exposing thing,\u00a0 you\u2019re there really to be made a fool of, and you have to be open to that happening,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

Mathew revealed that as well as receiving advice from his Ghosts co-stars, presenter Alex was on hand to reassure him behind-the-scenes.<\/p>\n

\u2018I think he\u2019s so used to the insecurities that people might come into it with so he\u2019s really encouraging,\u2019 he shared.<\/p>\n

He added: \u2018It\u2019s the most I\u2019ve ever felt like I\u2019m literally stepping into my television \u2013 that\u2019s what I\u2019d say was the most surreal thing about it.<\/p>\n

\u2018If you watch something for years, and then you find yourself literally there, it\u2019s like stepping into your TV.\u2019<\/p>\n

Mathew, who found stardom on the likes of Horrible Histories and Yonderland with the Them There troupe, is now hoping to show a different side to himself with Taskmaster.<\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019ve been a fan genuinely since the very beginning,\u2019 he told us.<\/p>\n

\u2018There was a period when \u2013 after a show I did called The Wrong Mans \u2013 when I started to get offered panel shows and I was really nervous about being myself and so I said no to those kind of things, because I thought of myself as a writer and a comic actor, but not a comedian or a stand up comic.<\/p>\n

\u2018And when Taskmaster started, I remember loving it and thinking maybe this is one I would do if they asked me to, because it felt like the framework is so brilliantly set up.<\/p>\n

\u2018You\u2019re not under pressure to be funny, it\u2019s really just about submitting to it, being really open, and just trying to do whatever insane things you\u2019re being asked to do, and it just looked like so much fun.\u2019<\/p>\n

He added: \u2018You probably reveal more of yourself through your work than you realize you do.<\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019ve probably made that clear through my work today, anyway. So yeah, there was no mystery to protect.\u2019<\/p>\n

Despite his genuine love for the show, and the \u2018competitive streak\u2019 he admitted to having, Mathew teased that as well as moments he may later regret, there were \u2018full mental breakdowns\u2019 that took place.<\/p>\n

He told us: \u2018Not to say I went in thinking I\u2019m going to win, but like, I\u2019m going to give it my best shot each task, and then routinely, I would open the envelope, have a full mental breakdown within seconds and end up back in the dressing room with my head in my hands going, \u201cWell, that was a disaster, hopefully the next one will go a bit better\u201d.\u2019<\/p>\n

He added: \u2018I mean that\u2019s the brilliant thing about the show as well, Greg is absolutely singing from his own songbook, you can\u2019t predict what he\u2019s going to think.\u2019<\/p>\n

Taskmaster airs at 9pm on Channel 4.<\/strong><\/p>\n
