Image: Press Association<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Patriotic residents in the Sale area of Trafford are set to put out bunting and picnic tables to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Scores of streets across Greater Manchester are to close between May 3 and May 11 as the nation recognises the day the Allies declared victory over Germany in the Second Word War.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Three weeks ago, it looked as though no applications had been submitted for temporary street closures in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/trafford\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Trafford<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">But now, three streets in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/sale\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Sale<\/a> have been granted permission by Trafford council to hold events.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">On Bank Holiday Monday, May 5, households in Mornington Road will party between 2pm and 7pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">On the same day people in Okehampton Crescent will do likewise between 12noon and 4pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Residents of Ennerdale Drive will hold their party Sunday May 11 at a time yet to be confirmed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Trafford had asked for eight weeks\u2019 notice for applications but said it would look to accommodate applications if any came in.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Meanwhile, the council has helped to organise two events for VE Day. On Saturday May 10 there will be a celebration of the end of the Second World War in Europe in the Trafford Centre at The Orient Stage and \u2018horseshoe\u2019 area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Together with Trafford Centre, the Army Charity and the council, an afternoon tea will be served by the mayor of Trafford, Coun Amy Whyte and invited military guests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A band will perform on stage during the event, and there will be displays by the Veterans Living History Museum.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">On Sunday May 11, at a time yet to be confirmed, there will be a service to commemorate VE Day at St Paul\u2019s Church, Sale which the mayor will also attend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The events are to commemorate the unconditional surrender of Germany after five years of war ending in 1945.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Allied forces included those from the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, France, Poland and the Soviet Union, now Russia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Residents set to celebrate as roads are closedVe Day 1945.
