A football fan has been banned from attending matches after shouting homophobic abuse at a game in Birmingham<\/a>.<\/p>\n Burton Albion fan, Steven Quig, was heard by a steward shouting homophobic abuse inside Birmingham City\u2019s St Andrew\u2019s ground on Boxing Day last year as his team took on the Blues.<\/p>\n The 45-year-old was arrested and then charged with a public order offence of using threatening or abusive words likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.<\/p>\n READ MORE: Football fan banned from matches and pubs after being found with knuckle duster<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n He admitted the offence and pleaded guilty at Birmingham Magistrates\u2019 Court on Thursday, April 24.<\/p>\n The Brewers supporter had previously attended an education course, provided by anti-discrimination organisation Kick It Out, in connection with another hate crime offence.<\/p>\n He had completed it and signed an acceptable behaviour contract with Burton Albion last September.<\/p>\n But following his latest offence, Quig was banned for three years from attending matches.<\/p>\n READ MORE: The ‘pathetic’ football fans banned for tarnishing the beautiful game’s name<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Pc Stuart Ward – who was appointed the UK’s first dedicated hate crime officer within a football unit – said: \u201cThere is no place for discrimination within football, and society in general.<\/p>\n \u201cQuig has quite rightly been banned from football.
