Perry Bamonte, the longtime guitarist and keyboardist for iconic British band The Cure, has died, the group announced on Friday.<\/p>\n

The band revealed on their official website that Bamonte passed away at his home following a short illness over Christmas<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The post described him as ‘quiet and intense,’ calling him an integral part of the band\u2019s story.<\/p>\n

Their tribute included: ‘It is with enormous sadness that we confirm the death of our great friend and bandmate, Perry Bamonte, who passed away after a short illness at home over Christmas.<\/p>\n

‘Quiet, intense, intuitive, constant and hugely creative, ‘Teddy’ was a warm-hearted and vital part of The Cure story.<\/p>\n

‘Looking after the band from 1984 through 1989, he became a full time member of The Cure in 1990, playing guitar, six-string bass and keyboard on the Wish, Wild Mood Swings, Bloodflowers, Acoustic Hits and The Cure albums, as well as performing more than 400 shows over 14 years.’<\/p>\n

The band revealed on their official website that Bamonte passed away at his home following a short illness over Christmas<\/p>\n

The tribute continued: ‘He rejoined The Cure in 2022, playing another 90 shows, some of the best in the band\u2019s history, culminating with the Show Of A Lost World concert in London 12st November 2024.<\/p>\n

Bamonte\u2019s connection to The Cure began in 1984 when he traveled with the band as a roadie, serving as a personal assistant to frontman Robert Smith and working as a guitar technician.\u00a0<\/p>\n

When keyboardist Roger O’Donnell left the group in 1990, Bamonte stepped in, regularly performing on both keyboard and guitar.<\/p>\n

Although Smith let Bamonte go from the band in 2005, the two remained on good terms, and Bamonte returned to tour with The Cure in 2022.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In 2019, he and the rest of the band were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n

Fans quickly took to social media to express their grief following the news of Bamonte\u2019s passing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

One user simply wrote, ‘I\u2019m so devastated,’ while another shared, ‘He was so talented. RIP.’<\/p>\n
