{"id":657679,"date":"2025-12-27T11:04:14","date_gmt":"2025-12-27T11:04:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/657679\/"},"modified":"2025-12-27T11:04:14","modified_gmt":"2025-12-27T11:04:14","slug":"us-sanctions-against-hateaid-unacceptable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/657679\/","title":{"rendered":"US sanctions against HateAid unacceptable"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Berlin (dpa) \u2013 The European Commission and representatives of the German government have rejected accusations of censorship by the US administration and sharply criticised entry bans imposed on the managing directors of the German advisory organisation against online hate, HateAid, and other Europeans. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Justice Minister Stefanie Hubig said decisions on \u201cthe rules by which we want to live in the digital space in Germany and Europe\u201d are not made in Washington. Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul described the entry bans as unacceptable. Writing on X, Wadephul said the Digital Services Act, which has been sharply attacked by the US administration, ensures that \u201cwhat is illegal offline is also illegal online\u201d. It was democratically adopted by the EU for the EU and does not have extraterritorial effect, he stressed. \u201cWe want to resolve differing views with the United States through transatlantic dialogue in order to strengthen our partnership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>French President Emmanuel Macron wrote on X: \u201cThese measures amount to intimidation and coercion aimed at undermining Europe\u2019s digital sovereignty.\u201d The European Commission under Ursula von der Leyen threatened retaliatory measures, saying it strongly condemned the US decision and had requested clarification. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>HateAid provides psychological and legal support for people who suffer online discrimination, insults, threats or attacks.
