According to Keep Scotland Beautiful (KSB), 8.3% of locations across the nation <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk\/news\/politics\/snp-showcases-glasgow-drugs-consumption-36227864\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"are considered badly littered.Link opens in a new tab.\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">are considered badly littered.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">But the state of our streets vary massively across the country. Litter peaked during the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk\/all-about\/coronavirus\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Covid pandemicLink opens in a new tab.\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Covid pandemic<\/a> with the places with a &#8220;significant presence of litter&#8221; reaching 10%. In 202i, bin strikes saw rubbish pile up in Glasgow while Edinburgh faced a similar scenario during the festival in 2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The issue is &#8220;significantly worse&#8221; in deprived areas, while litter was &#8220;more frequently observed&#8221; in urban areas with 15.1% of high density residential areas being badly littered, according to <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.keepscotlandbeautiful.org\/media\/prwhncry\/leq-report-2025-final-311025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"KSB&#039;s annual report into the issueLink opens in a new tab.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">KSB&#8217;s annual report into the issue<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Over 40% of litter in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk\/all-about\/scotland\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"ScotlandLink opens in a new tab.\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Scotland<\/a> is related to smoking with 15.5% being paper related. Drinks related litter accounted for 11.9% while confectionary was 11.3%. But using the analysis in its <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.keepscotlandbeautiful.org\/local-environmental-audit-and-management-system-leams\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Local Environmental Audit and Management System (LEAMS) Link opens in a new tab.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Local Environmental Audit and Management System (LEAMS) <\/a>tool, it is possible to rank Scotland&#8217;s council areas, apart from Moray which does not provide data, by which ones have the most littered sites.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">It shows that in 2024\/25, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk\/all-about\/clackmannanshire\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"ClackmannanshireLink opens in a new tab.\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\">Clackmannanshire<\/a> was the dirtiest place in Scotland in terms of litter, and Orkney the cleanest. Perth and Kinross was the cleanest area on the mainland. See the full league table below:<\/p>\n<p>Scotland&#8217;s most littered region<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The figures are based on the percentage of sites where there is either a &#8220;widespread distribution of litter with minor accumulations,&#8221; or areas that are &#8220;heavily littered with significant accumulations&#8221;. 13.7%<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Falkirk &#8211; 13.4%<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">West Lothian &#8211; 12.5%<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Midlothian &#8211; 12.3%<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">East Dunbartonshire &#8211;
