Michael Carrick is a leading contender to be the next Birmingham City manager,\u00a0sources have told Football Insider.<\/strong><\/p>\n Chris Davies<\/a>\u2018 future at St Andrews is under huge doubt and the pressure on him has intensified following the Boxing Day home draw against Derby County<\/a>.<\/p>\n Carrick<\/a>, 44, is of interest to Birmingham<\/a> as they begin exploring the market for potential alternatives to Davies.<\/p>\n The Man United legend was sacked by Middlesbrough<\/a> in June after they finished 10th in last season\u2019s Championship<\/a>.<\/p>\n Football Insider<\/strong> revealed last week that Birmingham have drawn up a shortlist of managerial replacements for Davies<\/a>.<\/p>\n Birmingham drew 1-1 with Derby<\/a> on Friday, despite having played against 10 men for much of the match. <\/p>\n Patrick Agyemang put the visitors ahead, before Joe Ward was shown a second yellow card for bringing down Patrick Roberts<\/a>. <\/p>\n MORE FOOTBALL INSIDER STORIES<\/p>\n It would take until the 64th minute for Birmingham to find the equaliser through Jack Robinson<\/a>, but Davies\u2019 team could not find a winner. <\/p>\n Christoph Klarer was handed a straight red card in stoppage time after a high challenge on Ebou Adams.<\/p>\n Lee Carsley is the bookies\u2019 favourite to replace Davies<\/a>, who has found himself under even more pressure following Friday\u2019s draw.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The Blues are now without a win in any of their previous five Championship fixtures, and are rapidly losing ground on the play-off places.<\/p>\n Michael Carrick yet to return to management<\/p>\n Carrick was sacked by Middlesbrough at the end of last season, after his side had finished 10th in the Championship.<\/p>\n Boro had handed the 44-year-old his first step into management when he was appointed in 2022 after leaving Manchester United<\/a>.<\/p>\n Carrick had served as a caretaker manager for the club he spent the majority of his playing career at, following the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer<\/a>, but jumped at the chance to lead a Championship club.<\/p>\n The club has today parted company with head coach Michael Carrick.<\/p>\n Full statement \u2935\ufe0f<\/p>\n \u2014 Middlesbrough FC (@Boro) June 4, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n View Tweet<\/p>\n His immediate impact was stunning.
