{"id":658766,"date":"2025-12-28T00:35:17","date_gmt":"2025-12-28T00:35:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/658766\/"},"modified":"2025-12-28T00:35:17","modified_gmt":"2025-12-28T00:35:17","slug":"ukraine-denies-russias-claims-of-capturing-key-front-line-cities-ahead-of-zelensky-trump-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/658766\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukraine denies Russia&#8217;s claims of capturing key front-line cities ahead of Zelensky-Trump meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Russia&#8217;s claims of occupying the front-line cities of Myrnohrad in Donetsk Oblast and Huliaipole in Zaporizhzhia Oblast are false, the General Staff of Ukraine&#8217;s Armed Forces reported on Dec. 27. <\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the day, Russian President <a href=\"https:\/\/kyivindependent.com\/tag\/vladimir-putin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vladimir Putin<\/a> allegedly visited a command post in the occupied territories of Ukraine, where he was informed that Moscow had seized control of Myrnohrad, Huliaipole, and several other settlements. <\/p>\n<p>The General Staff <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/GeneralStaff.ua\/posts\/pfbid021hmZH6K3Q46WSNWRi8pQw24h4M7hhGiECqJPyC26D78hpQh1jRaHEShWT2SCkYaZl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">dismissed<\/a> the Kremlin&#8217;s claims as examples of &#8220;the weapon of disinformation&#8221; ahead of upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/kyivindependent.com\/ukraine-denies-russias-claims-of-capturing-key-front-line-cities-ahead-of-zelensky-trump-meeting\/high-level peace talks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ukraine-U.S. peace talks<\/a> on Dec. 28.<\/p>\n<p>The situation in both areas is &#8220;difficult,&#8221; the Ukrainian military acknowledged, but defense operations remain active and ongoing. The General Staff also said reports of Russian control over half of <a href=\"https:\/\/kyivindependent.com\/tag\/kostiantynivka\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kostiantynivka<\/a>, in Donetsk Oblast, are &#8220;a fabrication.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is obvious that the Russians&#8217; lies are primarily aimed at foreign partners and have intensified significantly during the peace talks,&#8221; the military said. &#8220;However, Russian disinformation will not affect Ukraine&#8217;s position and further diplomatic work.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Article image\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" style=\"color:transparent;object-fit:cover\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1766882117_922_image\"\/>Russia currently occupies around one-fifth of Ukrainian territory. (Nizar al-Rifai\/The Kyiv Independent)<\/p>\n<p>Putin&#8217;s visit to the front, reported by Russian state media, came on the eve of President Volodymyr Zelensky&#8217;s Dec. 28 <a href=\"https:\/\/kyivindependent.com\/zelensky-says-security-guarantees-top-priority-in-peace-talks-with-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">meeting<\/a> with U.S. President Donald Trump, who is attempting to broker a <a href=\"https:\/\/kyivindependent.com\/zelensky-reveals-20-point-peace-plan-draft-backed-by-ukraine-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">peace deal<\/a> between Kyiv and Moscow.<\/p>\n<p>The Russian leader used the visit to reiterate Moscow&#8217;s maximalist goals, which include control over Ukraine&#8217;s entire <a href=\"https:\/\/kyivindependent.com\/tag\/donbas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donbas<\/a> region. After hearing the &#8220;report&#8221; of Russia&#8217;s alleged advances, Putin said Moscow&#8217;s interest in a negotiated Ukrainian withdrawal from the <a href=\"https:\/\/kyivindependent.com\/tag\/russian-occupation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">occupied territories<\/a> is &#8220;down to zero,&#8221; and said Russia is ready to achieve all its aims of the full-scale invasion by force of arms if Kyiv &#8220;does not want to end the matter peacefully.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Russian authorities have a history of publicly proclaiming <a href=\"https:\/\/kyivindependent.com\/putin-opens-annual-presser-with-maximalist-demands\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">battlefield advances<\/a> before actually achieving them.
