Taken from design and access statement prepared by SimpsonHaugh Architects on behalf of Vita Group.<\/p>\n<p>Another development which got permission to go ahead was a \u201cdynamic destination\u201d with multiple towers, which could create a \u201cbeautiful and accessible gateway\u201d in the city centre.<\/p>\n<p>As the end of 2025 approaches, here\u2019s a look at the skyscrapers approved this year that are set to forever change Brum\u2019s skyline.<\/p>\n<p>41-storey tower<\/p>\n<p>Amended proposals for a huge skyscraper in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressandstar.com\/news\/property\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Birmingham city centre <\/a>were approved in June after being considered for a third time.<\/p>\n<p>The planned development, which boasts a 41-storey tower, is set to provide more than 500 homes in central Brum.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/55d89cdf-543b-4bc4-9812-66a700cc3c8c.jpg\"   alt=\"Proposed Birmingham skyscraper at Bristol Street, Bromsgrove Street and Essex Street (amended design). Taken from planning document prepared by stephenson hamilton risley STUDIO.<\/p>\n<p>The design of the scheme, based on land at Bristol Street, Bromsgrove Street and Essex Street, was praised in a council report as \u201crefreshingly bold and unique\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>However, the committee first delayed a decision on the plans last September amid concerns about the housing mix \u2013 particularly the number of one-bedroom flats.<\/p>\n<p>Concerns were again raised at November\u2019s planning meeting, with Coun Colin Green saying he was still concerned about the mix, which he described as \u201cpretty poor\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/9792fee8-5076-4263-90fe-704eb538dd9b.PNG\"   alt=\"CGI of the proposed Birmingham city centre development. Taken from design and access statement prepared by SimpsonHaugh Architects on behalf of Vita Group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have some concerns myself \u2013 it seems this scheme is a very monolithic block on Bristol Street,\u201d Coun Martin Brooks, former chair of the committee, added.<\/p>\n<p>But the plans were ultimately given the green light at the third meeting in June after both the housing mix and building design were amended.<\/p>\n<p>Committee chair Coun Lee Marsham said: \u201cI think members when coming to make a vote on this will need to judge whether use of brownfield land to help regenerate an area outweighs any concerns you may have.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The benefits of the scheme include new public realm, the provision of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressandstar.com\/news\/property\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">housing<\/a>, temporary construction jobs and an enhancement of the ecological and biodiversity offer at the site, the council said.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Beautiful gateway\u2019<\/p>\n<p>An unassuming site in Holliday Street, just off A38 Suffolk Street Queensway, is set be home to a \u201cdynamic destination\u201d with multiple towers.<\/p>\n<p>Plans for a mixed-use development, consisting of apartments, student accommodation and a hotel, on the site of the former Axis Building were approved earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/270299bd-c1c3-4e8c-b02b-382d1b5e7b43.jpg\"   alt=\"Proposed Birmingham skyscraper at Bristol Street, Bromsgrove Street and Essex Street (amended design).
