{"id":659794,"date":"2025-12-29T07:51:11","date_gmt":"2025-12-29T07:51:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/659794\/"},"modified":"2025-12-29T07:51:11","modified_gmt":"2025-12-29T07:51:11","slug":"the-sheffield-food-banks-buying-in-supplies-to-meet-demand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/659794\/","title":{"rendered":"The Sheffield food banks buying in supplies to meet demand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Sheffield S6 Foodbank feeds 1,200 people, including 400 children, each week. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The crates they send out typically contain 30 items including toiletries and loo roll, alongside tinned tuna, tomatoes, chilli and various vegetables.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;One of our biggest imports is tomatoes,&#8221; Mr Hardy explains.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;We buy around seven containers of tomatoes every year which is 350,000-400,000 tins of tomatoes. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Those tins in a supermarket are about 43p and we&#8217;re paying about 33p for them, so we&#8217;re saving about 10p per tin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Over the 300,000 tins, it&#8217;s a good chunk of saving.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">That saving is now passed on to other food banks in the UK.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;When we worked out we were saving money for ourselves, it just made sense that we helped our other food banks in our area and nationally,&#8221; he says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;We&#8217;re all trying to make sure we&#8217;re there for every person in our community &#8211; and we do that by saving money together.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Sheffield S6 Foodbank feeds 1,200 people, including 400 children, each week.
