P\u00e1draig McDonald (20) was killed in the tragedy near Cookstown in the early hours of Friday morning.<\/p>\n

The lasting impact that Mr McDonald left on his home village of Loughmacrory was clear as hundreds gathered in St Mary\u2019s Church for his funeral mass.<\/p>\n

Fr Peter McAneney began the mass by inviting Mr McDonald\u2019s brothers and sister to offer gifts symbolising his love for football, farming, his family and home.<\/p>\n

Fr McAneney described him as an \u201cexceptional and fine young man\u201d.<\/p>\n

He spoke about his own memories of Mr McDonald, recalling how he arrived late to Christmas Day mass less than a week ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cI won\u2019t forget the smile on his face at the end of mass,\u201d Fr McAneney said, recalling how Mr McDonald\u2019s younger brother told the congregation what Santa had left them on Christmas morning.<\/p>\n

Fr McAneney said he regularly visited the McDonald family home and knew P\u00e1draig\u2019s parents were proud of their \u2018exceptional son\u2019.<\/p>\n

The priest recalled speaking to Mr McDonald\u2019s primary school teachers who remarked on his \u2018gentle nature and kind heart\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe strived to be the best he could be, he was a joy to teach and a joy inside and out of the classroom,\u201d Fr McAneney said.<\/p>\n

He quoted a tribute from Mr McDonald\u2019s secondary school, the Dean Maguirc College in Carrickmore.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe entire school community of Dean Maguirc College is shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing of our past pupil P\u00e1draig McDonald. \u201cP\u00e1draig was much loved and highly regarded by both pupils and staff alike.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was a very popular member of E23 form class.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fr McAneney also read a tribute from Gina\u2019s Bar and Lounge, where Mr McDonald often drank.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are many people who walk through our doors, but every so often someone comes along who is truly special \u2014 not just a customer, but a friend to us all,\u201d he read.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Ducky walked into the bar, the whole place instantly brightened.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt didn\u2019t matter if you were old or young, a familiar face or someone he\u2019d never met, Ducky would chat away and make everyone feel welcome and at ease in his presence.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe bar won\u2019t feel the same without him. He will be deeply missed by our customers, but especially by all of the staff at Gina\u2019s.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Ducky came into the bar, he might have come in for a drink, but he never hesitated to lend a hand. Whether it was taking in kegs or emptying bins, no ask was ever too big \u2014 and it was always done with a smile.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd when we needed an extra pair of hands behind the bar, he never left us stuck. He stepped in on so many occasions, always with his familiar line: \u2018I\u2019ll never see you stuck.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd he truly never did.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr McDonald was a former youth player with the local club, Loch Mhic Ruairi Naomh Treasa CLG.<\/p>\n

Poignantly, as his remains returned home on Friday night, the cortege stopped at the team\u2019s Pairc an Locha ground where he picked up his jersey for the final time.<\/p>\n

The priest described how one of his coaches praised his \u2018tigerish tackling\u2019.<\/p>\n

He noted Mr McDonald\u2019s various sporting achievements with the team, particularly his under-14 league title, when he scored the winning goal in a key game.<\/p>\n

The service also heard how, in recent years, the McDonald family purchased a farm, which P\u00e1draig took great pride in.<\/p>\n

The crash, which happened just before 1am on Friday morning, has caused widespread shock.<\/p>\n

A teenager also suffered \u201clife-changing injuries\u201d and several others remain in hospital.<\/p>\n
